WDT: Arena Bids Down to the Wire as Opening Looms

With the opening just around the bend, City Hall is hoping a vendor will step up to run the Fairgrounds Arena snack bar. A previous solicitation for bids received no takers , so this time there is no requirement to pay for the franchise which lasts till August , 2017.
City staff will make a qualitative judgment and recommend to Council which vendor gets the gig.
Bidders have till March 10 to submit and must provide extensive proof of insurance, a menu, proof of performance, and ability to obtain all regulatory approval quickly.
Bidders have not seen the concession area or inspected the capabilities, although I assume tours are available.
The bid packet was sent to some forty vendors including large restaurants and chains.  Whether anyone bids will be the result of analysis on whether you can make money doing it. A private vendor has more staging issues in running an adjunct operation there, but many existing restaurants also have  back up inventory and kitchen facilities.
According to this article, some vendors have been talked to and its assumed there is a certainty of bids this time.
Council recently considered and rejected plans for a more elaborate concession stand, althouth it is unknown how much the plans cost.
The City has some limited food service equipment although a vendor would likely have to make improvements and purchase more equipment.
I believe any such improvements and the infrastructure to support them is at the vendor's expense.
Meanwhile, the renovated building is attracting attention and the public, or at least some of it, seems anxious to see what's inside.

If you read the article, it is clear someone has been chosen. The bids are a formality.
Very tough to bid on something with so many unknowns.

I don't know if someone has been chosen yet but it is a joke to call it a bid. Why don't they just say the truth? Put in an offer and they will think about it.

Why do they think restaurant owners know anything about running a concession stand. Just sub it out to one of the vendors every other facility uses.

Parks and Rec are all over this... I have every confidence it will be run by a top notch, class act. I even heard Gut Fiero will be here to review it for Diners, Drive-ins and Dives!
