Obscure Commission Gets a New Boss

Running the Tug Hill Commission is one of those nice, six figure niche jobs where you can be comfy without getting into trouble.
In his years as head of it, John Bartow proved an able advisor to local governments. He understood the bureaucracy and politics of New York, helping local elected officials who did not.
The Commission was created years ago, because with so many tiny local jurisdictions, no one had the resources or reach to coordinate. A companion agency named SLEOC disappeared years ago. An even larger commission was created thirty years ago called DANC.
The new head is a woman named Katie Malinowski.

Is this the giant all powerful unelected commission that PAddie Ritchie is in favor of writing a blank check for? Lord knows without these bureaucrats advising the counties and municipalities on what laws to pass, the backwards hillbillies might still allow non dark-sky compliant street lights, curtailing star gazing for a dozen residents in the tri-county area.

Didn't Pataki get rid of SLEOC in his first budget? God bless that man.

Patty Ritchie made some suggestions during her campaign for office concerning do away with Commissions, and some state authorities and saving the taxpayers money. Instead she has reversed and fought to maintain these commission along with the biggest tax increases in SLC and another in Jefferson Co. She promised our starr rebate which i,ve yet t see.
Possibly this years heh...

Nothing at all against Katie. I'd be curious her education background. Nothing in the WDT article. I looked at the position and I want to say (going from memory) it required a Master's? Also, beaucoup administrative experience - which I suspect she has.

They meet four times a year, sometimes more if things get sticky. Sometimes less. Pays over $100k. Usually these jobs are doled out to state employees who want to pad their retirement. You voted for this. Enjoy.

It was originally called the Temporary Commission on the Future of Tug Hill. "Temporary" was dropped so Mr. Coe could qualify for a cushy pension.

Let's not forget the Black/Hudson/River regulators who TAX buildings on the Black River like the old Bldg. on West Main St. formally known as Black Clawson, and then Directors are chosen for them like Glenn L. who charged chocolates, flowers and lunches only to be caught..

I know the two ladies who work in support of that agency. They are nice people who work hard. Lay off 'em, or I will find you.

The $115k per year guy who retired from the job, did not have a masters degree.

4:36, what does anyone being nice, have to do with this unelected organization being a terrible thing and a waste of tax money with the main goal of pushing local municipalities to pass liberal laws?

Requiring a masters degree is just another way to funnel money to the corrupt industrial education and indoctrination complex.
