Buffalo Teachers Reject 10% Raise...Call It "Insulting and Demeaning" - City & Region - The Buffalo News

The Buffalo School Board offered up a ten percent raise for teachers, partly reflecting a long stretch with no contract....But the teachers said it was "insulting and demeaning", claiming their pay lags other communities.

Isn't Carl Paladino on the School Board ?

As well they should be insulted. I have been getting 10% raises a year FOREVER and it is darned hard to maintain my lifestyle.

1112.. Are you brain dead or just from another planet.. They have been without a contract for 11 years and been offered 1% per year for it.. Thats not a fair contract for anyone including teachers.
If you are a product of their work however they should all be fired

10%, one year. The children lovers are dissatisfied. What to do?

Funny how when you read about these types of "negotiations" they never mention how much the employees are already making. Teachers should be making about $60k if they had typical health and retirement plans. They don't though, so that's why many make around $50k. A lot of our other public employees make WAYYYYY too much for the benefits they receive.

I would LOVE to be insulted with a 10% raise. that certainly beats the occasional raises I have been getting.

In today's WDT - "70% of enrollees at SUNY colleges need remedial courses."

Outstanding. I submit that based on that none of the teechurs deserve a raise of any sort. Perhaps a termination notice instead.

One kid said it wasn't the teecher's fault it was that he did not pay attenshun. My teachers got my attention - by threat of a failing grade. Today its pass them on to the next rummy dummy teechur.

well said 3:37, but remember...this is the hate education blog. We never mention the absurd budgets and payroll lines of our NY State politicians and there multiple offices, per diem, etc...we NEVER mention that.

The public sector unions have bankrupted New Jersey by giving them the demands in the contract negotiations. Public sector unions should only negotiate with their employers, but not be binding. Private sector employees can negotiate because they can actually improve the companies by working hard to be more productive. Teachers for instance have the whole summer off. They should never be paid for doing nothing. Homeschooling is legal so their demands are weak.

10:35, you should get out of the teacher's lounge more often. Lot of people are realizing they pay dearly for very little.
