Bar Owner Unsure Of Future After Wind Destroys Roof | WWNY TV 7

Losing your roof in one fell swoop.....That's a shame but what a mess as West Main Street was closed due to debris.  Very sorry as I was familiar with the tavern in its days at JR's.

Is there any code enforcement in Watertown? That place has been rotting from the top down for years. Upper story windows blown out. No surprise. Just fortunate no one was killed. It should be on the city...

I think the city should construct him a deck at taxpayer expense.

Just please tell me that the city will NOT advocate tearing the building down. She is a beauty and the owner and city have done her wrong by putting a roof on her that was not up to north country standards. We don't need another ugly hole next to the river as experience has shown, nothing ever happens to these vacant lots. I don't anticipate PJ to come riding in to build something there as the lot is too narrow with the steep drop off to the river. Please don't tear her down. Have the WLDC or JCIDA or DANC or some other ABC$$$ organization front the roof and facade repairs. If we can put a deck on Maggie's for marketability, we can put a roof on this one! We DO NOT need another vacant lot!

agree with 7:36, is there any code enforcement in this city at all? The buildings are deteriorating, trash is piling up and nobody seems to do do anything about it.

The city code enforcement is busy observing for furniture left curbside.

Perhaps the Northern NY Community Foundation will buy it as an overflow annex?

Look at the top courses of brick on any of those building that are about that age. The water intrusion and freeze thaw cycles has pushed the mortar out of them then there is nothing holding them together or holding the roof on.

You don't have to look any further than the Black River Adventurers shop to find one of the next buildings to suffer the same fate as the old Turf Club.
These old buildings are not maintenance free and you have to look at more than new windows and interior repairs if you plan to keep them standing.

The Turf Club!Haha that takes me back,I remember that, except our group of friends referred to it as the Scurf Club, because it was pretty scurvy back then.

I've been in every bar in Watertown just to see what they were like, except the Hitch. Never had any interest in checking that place out.
Turf Club, back in the day was indeed quite a dive.
Used to stop in to Herb's grill for lunch back in my Air Brake days.
