WDT:Drug cops will spend even more money on taking people’s stuff next year

This is a great story. Cops taking more in civil forfeitures from the folks than burglars get. I just shake my head at times where this country is going.

Many of us who fully support our police do not agree with the shake down system that our laws permit, even encourage. I believe it was a well intended move, having criminals themselves pay the costs of enforcement. But it has gotten completely out of hand. There are pecking order rules among agencies to determine who gets to keep more of the gold. This isn't right. But neither is the practice of setting roadblocks to shake down citizens. Government gets bigger, people get smaller.

That's a joke, are you kidding with all the asset seizure the nys gov and even the locals do,you are upset about the cops targeting crooks? What about the decent people who make a mistake or are just not up to date on the tax laws, the states and feds(IRS) confiscate a hell of a lot more than the cops.

Just another loophole in the legal system that allows them to steel and pocket money and not leave a paper work trail.

This was one of the many librul/fascist things that Reagan did.
I could not believe my eyes when I read the Court upheld these confiscations, back in the 80's.
A true Conservative believes in due process and would not empower and reward the same entity to be judge/jury/executioner with a booty for finding the party guilty.
