WDT: Dog Park Idea Unlikely to Proceed

While they are a common adjunct to parks and recreation departments in countless communities, the new City Council may abandon such a park at Factory Square Park and drop the idea entirely.
Maybe someday, but not now.  In the end, there was too much controversy and not enough support although one may have had a lot to do with the other.

The only thing I want out of a new mayor is one who enforces Robert's Rules of Order, so that blow hards cannot show up and speak about the same topic at the beginning of the meeting ever single meeting for as long as they wish.

There is nothing wrong with putting the public comment section at the end of the meeting so that everyone can leave while a certain obnoxious habitual repetitive speaker is talking. There is nothing wrong with limiting the time a commenter can speak. There is nothing wrong with limiting the number of times a speaker can speak about the same topic. There is nothing wrong with refusing to hear new comments about settled topics, unless of course a council member objects, presumably because they changed their mind since they last voted on the topic.

I for one am sorely disappointed in Butler and Jennings for supporting the dog park, remember they voted for it, and now unsupporting the dog park. I don't care where they put it, but the fact that they supported and voted on it and now are waffling tells me a lot about their integrity. Not voting for either one of them ever again. Integrity counts, even in Watertown.

Thank god put it to rest, when I was a kid a dog park was called your yard.

So Watertown's court jester has ruined the idea for everyone, with his constant incoherent and repetitive rants. He's the biggest loser, he's lost all credibility by polarizing so many.

Those of us who said it wouldn't work were right. As soon as the Factory st site was announced, it was a dead issue. It really was a slick way of killing it. But I never thought it was a good idea anyway. At least we gave some money to the painters for those slick, BS signs.

There is nothing wrong with asking if someone else wants to take up the fund raising for the project. Just because one man decided to drop it, doesn't mean others still couldn't get it done. Just because one person is super negative about it, doesn't mean others still could try to make it work. I agree with 8.03. The negative needs to be removed from those chambers, this year coming! I do see two very positive men coming in. That's good. I hope their positive can rub off on the people who are still there. Jeff had nothing but positive, and not many of them could see it from the trees they put themselves in. Time for change has been asked for, voted on, and now it is time. Kick the negative out of the City Hall. Too bad Jeff and Ms. Burns have to leave. But it is what it is.

Now just because the paper, one negative dude, and some side kicks say the Dog Park is dead on that street doesn't make it so. We just need to take the fund raising away from the dead hands it's in, and try harder. Jeff was collecting money very well, till someone had to make a big deal about people in office being involved. That was just one of the deadly sins. Envy.

Time for Envy to go away, sloth, and hate. It was a great idea. It just wasn't the other sides idea. So it had to be bad, right? I ask Mr. Butler to make that his first job in office. To get the negative out of the chambers. To look at everyone's ideas with an open heart. Realize what was lost too. Two city leaders worked real hard in their times to make things work well, better. They are leaving. Take up the torch.

Amazing that there wasn't much interest in the dog park until election year came along. I could care less whether there was ever a dog park, I don't have a dog. But looked to me like it was being used as a campaign takeover until it backfired and became controversial. Jeff, didnt you say you purchased the sign out of your pocket on the blog once?

The dog park idea would work if you simply moved it to Thompson Park. Well...that and forked over a hundred thou$and of tax payer money. Maybe Patty Plate could get a grant of free money for it.

I would definitely support a dog park to go in place of the self congratulatory tenth mountain monument to modesty.

Ray...where on earth does positive come out of those members who are leaving? This is why they are leaving.

2:48, I'm thinking you don't realize how stupid you sound when you cling to that Patty plate thing. Most of us remember that event as a public servant helping taxpayers. But you keep puking the bile. You are sure to win over the other genius who agrees with you.

5:44 what is your point? No matter how "most of us remember that event", the name still sticks for her in this political blog, as I am not the only one who uses it to describer her. Although, I use it mostly because "Patty the free stuff RINO", is too long and has less alliteration.

Sounds like ray is watching "Seven" too much with his deadly sins stuff he is harping on.

S Gates is simply incredible! He is urging the new city council to act on promoting a dog park in Thompkins Park immediately before his dog,Mia passes on. Now ,I'm a dog owner and long time pet owner, but Gates has crossed over if he thinks his is a legitimate request. Hopefully the city council will wish Mia well, but pass on such a ludicrous idea.

Where's Thompkin's Park????????

Yup 7:42, only you and your one friend uses the term Patty Plate. You just keep trying to float that smear. It was a matter that most all agree with. So do your best, but anyway it goes, you lose. Your Patty Plate did the right thing for us. The only people who disagree spend lots of time on the golf course, as it were.

The mayor was throwing Scott a bone with the factory dog park . But instead of going with the factory street idea ,Scott didn't want that because he wants all the glory and tv , paper ,radio, .He gets off on the idea of being important its been that way from the beginning. He lied about the money he had to start the dog park. That's when he started going after Mr. smith and the he kept using that for years. And anyone that didn't go along with what he wanted he would attack them and go to the council meetings over and over bending things that was said to just get air time. Now he is using poor MIA;S sickness to feed his own . I hope the new people on the council catch on to this. Scott wants not just a dog park he wants the glory dog park. From the beginning he has only a handful of people and that's all . There is no need to have a dog park at Thompson park most people walk with there dogs up there and have no use for a dog park. Plus we live in the north country and you can only use it six months out of the year. Plus its to far away for most people to use. And last Scott has tried for nine years because no one wants a dog park !

I dunno, Joe Butler I think has caught on to SGs maneuvers, at least sounded that way from the live at 5 interview.
Hey SG, Thompson Park is just as much mine as yours, a gift to Watertown. I don't want dogs barking and pooping around there when I visit the park. Take your park to a separate out of the way location.

I saw on the news one of our vaunted elected new councilmen is falling in lockstep with Gates,he never mentioned it during the election season, but this is the kind of thinking we are now stuck with.

Scott Gates had a teen detained and questioned, because he was afraid of him. Is that not enough to discredit him forever? For the rest of time? It is for me. He has nothing else I want to hear. When the rest of you get that, he will be done.

Anonymous said...

What's all the innuendos about a teen detained? Why would any teen even care about the dog park stuff, unless on the inside of the matter. If so, shame on the parent/s.

Anonymous said...

9.17...Wake up. He was being picked on by a teen at one of the meetings. He went over to a cop and asked him to detain him because, in his words, he could hurt him. He has the mentality of a child himself. You can not take a man child serious.

Wake up 10:45? Maybe you just pay more to minutia than the rest of us. Get a life, sounds like you're dragging it forward in a couple of posts. I'm sure the anonymous teens parent and SG appreciate that.

You got it now? said...

No 6.04pm You are just trying to push the facts away so your little freak can continue his side show. I stated it because it shows the child like behavior the so called man has. He can't work, his back is bad. He can at the same time go all over the city handing out flyers. He didn't have the balls to play that night, so he had an officer step in. Shows he is one of those guys. Picked a fight, lost to a 50 pound teen, and cried all the way back to his home. He had to start crap up in the park on Kite Day! He almost took a ride that day. Add his stupid calls to the picture, almost sounds like he is crying, and who can really stand him? My point was and still is, he is a whiny man child who has lost all respect by people who easily see through his act. He wanted the full control of the park or nothing, lies about much, and is a snake potion sales man child.

He's not my little freak, 11:04, don't know the guy. But it is laughable how a detractor like you is calling the guy a whiny man child and then goes on to rant like a pre teen.
Who cares? Quit bringing it up and the subject will die a slow death.
