Tuesday

Normally I wouldn't go out of my way to watch these Presidential debates, but I'll be there tonight for the fifth GOP debate. Next month FOX gets to make the money on the mid January debate.
Donald Trump has energized the race and now is surging in polls.
My pushing the City to take title to that Vanduzee property may prove a wise move as it appears the loss is covered by insurance under a policy provision for newly acquired property. How much will be recovered is yet to be determined. If the previous owner were still on the deed...No such luck.
In a perverse and dangerous way the arsonist may have done us all a favor as the buildings would have come down at some time anyway. In saying that, I am not suggesting it's OK....just ironic.
That McDonalds in Canton ? Can't believe the comments about how it doesn't fit there. These kind of commercial properties are the heart of a tax base, and it reminds me of Washington Street and the opposition from those who didn't like the menu.

PBS's Ken Burns has a very interesting documentary about Prohibition. The parallels to gun control are undeniable. Burn's claims one of the most influential groups pushing for prohibition was women. Although more and more women today are valuing their 2nd Ammendment rights, many more women today favor banning guns, just they did alcohol during that era. "Liquor was scapegoated for all the failures of society". Sound familiar? "People were afraid of the drink, as it was blamed for everything from broken families to crime". Sound familiar? Much time was spent talking about the fruitless efforts of government to keep the average citizen from drinking, but they weren't the problem. Sound familiar? Most law abiding people obeyed the laws regarding prohibition, while the criminal element, and the affluent, did not. Sound familiar? And remember, drinking is not a protected right as the Second Amendment is. It would appear with all the uninformed and hysterical folks in our fine land, we are destined to head down this road once again. I'm sure this time efforts to make the world perfect will be successful.

It always happens where we follow along and then another name so happens to pop up. Who is Cathy Fiorina? I follow along, and yet there is always someone else in the spotlight.

The only things you should insure in life, are the things you can't afford to lose. a city the size of Watertown should not have such insurance with such a low deductible. It costs more than it is worth and making a claim on it will change the experience rating, thus making it even more of a foolish policy than it already is.
