Manger Theft Won't Stop Christmas

The stolen Baby Jesus from a Gouverneur church was indeed tossed into the Oswegatchie River and won't be recovered. However a new one will be in place tonight, while the the perpetrator will not be charged after coming forward and fessing up to church officials.
Forgiveness is fine but the action resulted in divers going into the river and time, effort and money spent as a result of the thief's actions.
A local chain saw carver has made a new Jesus for the manger and it will be in place by tonight.

What a great religion, that brings out the best in people more often than not.

"Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's". Meaning respect the law and abide by it. The church is evidently unaware of this unfashionable requirement. But what would one expect of today's flexible clergy.

Will it look like Dede.?

I agree with 7:42. The church should stone these criminals, nail them to a cross or both. And if the govenrment doesn't permit that then they should engage in terrorism until they get their way.

10:39, try not to be so stupid during this Christmas season. Relax.

Should stone him. Or maybe chop off both his hands. If you followed the bible anyhow.

As a long time nonbeliever of mainstream religion I can truly appreciate the good will gesture of the First United Methodist Church in the village of Gouverneur and the unselfish efforts of woodcarver Curtis R. Constance.

I’m reminded of the Victor Hugo novel and movie Les Miserables where the fictional character Jean Valjean was caught stealing silverware from the church. Valjean takes most of Monseigneur Bienvenu's silver and runs off in the night. The police capture Valjean and take him back to face Bienvenu. When the police inform Bienvenu they have found the silver in Valjean's knapsack, Bienvenu tells the police that he had given them to Valjean as a gift. He then chastises Valjean for not taking the silver candlesticks as well. After the police leave, Bienvenu tells Valjean to use the silver to become an honest man.

This of course was a turning point in his life as he went on to become a fruitful, compassionate, and honest man.

And in spite of my personal beliefs, and regardless of the time of the year, I feel both the church and Mr. Constance should be applauded for their demonstration of mercy and kindness.

Forgiveness is always easy to talk about, but never easy to do.

Yes 3:08, that Bible is a terrible thing. Merry Christmas to you.

I agree with you 929. It is truly terrible that the bible doesn't mention christmas even once!

11:03, your efforts to sound stupid have been hugely successful.
