Man Lies in Gutter as Motorists Drive By

From the milk of human kindness department. Saturday morning about 10:50 an apparently intoxicated man walked across Breen Avenue and promptly fell in the gutter on top of a storm grate.
The man lie motionless as a Jeep Liberty turned off Arsenal Street and drove right by. In fact the security video that caught the episode showed over two minutes passed before someone stopped to help.
It was kind of like the time a broke a leg on ice years ago on Starbuck Avenue. A lot of people passed by despite obvious distress. I could only post a portion of the video, but you get the idea.
Folks, you need to help regardless the circumstances.

No way I would stop for anyone in that seedy area of town. I would call 911 and let the pro's handle it.

Another shining example of what Watertown has become - on both sides of the spectrum. The needy boozers and the sober no-carers.

And 6:46 illustrates today's fashionable thinking. With all due respect, Sir, if I ever see you or a loved one in any trouble, I will certainly call 911 for you. After I get home from the mall.

Its like if someone ran to your house and wanted to come in and needed help its hard these days to let anyone in because you don't know what could happen. I tell my wife if im not home don't let anyone in call the cops. Its a scary time these days.

We all understand that you are afraid, 8:35. But life is a risk. I would stop. I always will stop.

It is unfortunate but frankly with today's crime and drug addled environment and the potential for lawsuits even for. Well intended good samaritans it is understandable .

1:40, the world could use FEWER people like you and 12:08.
Anyone that does not see the seedy comment, as an attempt purposelessly poke fun at Graham and his favorite hangout, ought to just hang it up and vote party line donkey.

And you too, Mr Aldrich. I just will not live my life in fear. If I go down, I go down. But I will not live with my tail beneath my legs. 12:25 makes good points, but I'm not worth $100,000, so the joe nose guys don't worry me.

Guess he didn't go to the DARE program, or Shop-with-a-cop...

I once saw a girl laying on Factory street near a door. Stopped and asked nice if she was okay. She told me to leave her alone. Started yelling something. So I drove off. No good deed goes un-punished is the answer.

So someone gave assistance in LESS than 3 minutes and you don't find that to be acceptable?

I would think you should be offering praise for the quick response.
There are probably a variety of reasons the first passersby didn't stop but you are pretty quick to judge that they did so because they lack compassion.

Listen, 3:04. This is not a contest or an argument. You can choose to drive by, hide your head, or squeeze whatever part of your anatomy you desire. I don't care. But for myself, I will stop. I will not be controlled by fears or fashionable emotions. I will stop every time. I don't care if I get sued, mugged, tarred and feathered, or forced to register as a Democrat. I will stop. From the sound of you and your fearful nature, I'm thinking you probably wouldn't have much to offer in the name of assistance anyway. You and yours just keep driving. We will all feel better if you do. Years ago, NYC was famous for a case where an old lady screamed for help, didn't get any, and ended up raped and murdered. I'm guessing you're one of the folks who would have ignored her too. Be safe, my little friend. Think of number one. And Merry Christmas to your cowardly ass.

Cant really blame anyone today for not stopping to help someone in need of assistance , look what happened to the poor elderly couple that stopped to help a poor lady laying in the road last week in northern St. Lawrence county a CRAZY Border patrol officer stopped and beat the life out of both of them . (Hope they bring on the biggest law suit against the state and county has ever seen). Huh ? tazer incident last year and beating good Samaritan Elderly people who tried to help. Yes sir the Border Patrol is on a roll ! Retrain them all to THINK before you react.

Nice that you would stop mayor, I mean 4:51.
I would stop as well.
But with that said, I would advise my wife and daughter to never stop, call 911 to be sure but do not put yourself at risk by stopping for a situation that you don't know anything about. This day and age has too many instances of people pretending to be in distress just to lure a person in with foul play in mind.
You had the benefit of watching a video of the incident and seeing all of the factors that it was comprised of. Perhaps the Jeep that drove by did not see the person or it is entirely possible they did and called 911 and put it in their hands. You don't know this and to sit in judgment without knowing the circumstances is hardly fair.
