City of Ithaca backs living wage

The City of Ithaca and the surrounding Tompkins County, well wait, the elected bodies not necessarily the people, have voted to enact a "living wage" of $14.34 an hour. Of course, localities cannot enact such a thing without enabling legislation in Albany. Good luck with that.

Places like Ithaca....like New York State are usually the leading edge of what happens all over. Glad I am able to work more nowadays as all that payroll won't fly in the retail market I serve.

Fact is a $15 wage is no incentive to a corporate executive or the head of a NFP or government agency.

But what the egalitarian crowd doesn't realize is that in small business there is a point where the owner just says, I'll do it myself for that pay.

When you refer to the clueless who vote for this as "the egalitarian crowd", what exactly does that mean? The people who vote for this would not work for a measly $15/hr, no matter how few classes they teach and no matter how long their summer break is. Does it mean they want everyone to be equal in poverty, as the brilliant Thatcher once tricked the liberal into admitting?

Ithaca is the leading edge of what happens all over the country? Great, we can look forward to a bunch of stoner pseudo-intellectuals.

Ithaca would be nothing without the taxpayers dishing out the biggest corporate welfare in the name of "education". Yet these guys point to phantom corporate welfare supposedly given to Walmart and energy producers. Yup, this so called "corporate welfare" include normal accounting practices such as writing off research and development and depreciating assets. Along with HEAP and Obama phones give to low income workers. Poppycock!

Ithaca has always been a hotbed of political stupidity. Lots of daddie's money flowing into that town. Makes the little kiddies all excited. Kinda like the Potsdam kids.
