Another Electoral Retread Eyes "Vulnerable" Assembly Seat

I see Canton resident and one time Congressional hopeful Joe Gilbert has a Facebook page announcing an exploratory committee. I assume he is exploring the local Assembly seat that Republicans all think is in play next year if Assemblywoman Addie Russell seeks reelection.
The GOP seems to be pretty sure on this but you still need a credible candidate who knows how to represent people. Remember, last time the hounds were never unleashed as Dems initially thought it not a close race/ That's unlikely to happen again and ultimately voters will choose among the options available.
Mr. Gilbert, if he runs, would join Lisbon farmer Russ Finley and Cape Vincent resident John Byrne as the likely candidates with other candidates also being mentioned.
On the Democratic side there is chatter of a primary with the Mayor of Massena and the son of former Assemlyman Aubertine being mentioned, although I suspect June has it under control.

Joe is a great guy. We need people like him in elected office.

You need more than a credible candidate who knows how to represent people. You need a candidate that is not 90% the same as the one you are running against. Byrne was a 90% copy of Addie. What good is that to the GOP voters? It actually makes it worse for the voters because he would cross the isle and vote with the democrats 90% of the time.

All the GOP ever needed was a decent candidate and they haven't had one yet. It remains to be seen how hard it is to unseat AJR, based on how much the MSN supports Hillary. But it will still be a better than even chance...all they need is the right candidate.

Give em hell, Joe!

Maybe former St. Lawrence County Republican chair and Hammond Town Justice Bill Sheridan will throw his hat in the ring? He has political experience and knows the district.

8:39, your narrative about Byrne is inaccurate. But it is an oft repeated myth. Without the split vote he would have won.

Aubertine Sr. is pushing Jr., they are just playing footsie with Junie.

The apple does not fall from the tree.

But is "Jr" electable and will June O'Neil and the Democrat machine actually allow a fellow Democrat to run against an incumbent? I highly doubt it. They seem to have a much more functional "machine" than Jenison's GOP in SLC. The GOP needs to put up a good candidate in the category of a Dave Martin, Bob Nortz, John and Chloe Ann O'Neil or Pattie Ritchie. Those type of candidates haven't stepped forward but if they did, the seat would be theirs.
