18 Year Old Arrested for Stealing $100 from a Cash Register

You'll never get the hundred bucks back and frankly in a case like the one on the blotter, I'd fire the 18 year old and tell her she will end up  being a loser if she keeps doing this stuff.
Saddle her with a record ? I don't know. Bad enough anyone considering hiring her who Googles will  never hire her.
I don't think all the six figure cops, prosecutors, lawyers , counselors and the like need to be bothering with this...It's wrong, but at 18....That's a child....I'd think twice about ruining her life without warning her...Of course, a lot of people like this keep doing it, and it will catch up....They don't think so but it does.
      Fire away.

At 18, it is clear the $60k/year teachers did not drive the point home to her. So now it is time for the $120k/year cops to give it a try, and see if they can get through to her.

Wow,somebody rips off a business and it is slam the cops time,I guess.Easy for you to say you would just let it go,guess what, she has probably been stealing by other methods too,and you just want to pass the buck to the next business owner unfortunate enough to hire her.A hundred bucks isn't chump change, wonder why she needed so much, maybe for other activity you don't care to know about. But,keep on blaming the cops and teachers, fits right in with your new conservative persona.. ?

sentence her to a year of community service , Jail time for small offences cost the taxpayers money Save the cells for the druggies.

Not sure about this case but usually it's not an isolated incident. They probably noticed money coming up missing and finally caught the culprit on video.
Also, you certainly wouldn't want to fire her or you'll have the labor department shaking you down and your unemployment insurance will go up. You might want to give her the option to resign though.

Not me. I don't blame cops or teachers. I blame the chrimanal jushtus schistim. It is a fine industry to establish a career. And 7:11, nice try. There are many more educational professionals making six digits than cops. But we understand your feeeelings on this. Shouldn't you be in the Bahamas by now?

18 is not a kid. 18 is a full blown adult and completely responsible for their own actions. Stealing when you are 13 is an offense to be handled between the parents and the place of business. When you are 18 it is a criminal offense and you deserve to be come down hard on and a blot on your record.

Had it been a cardboard cutout that was pilfered then the full fury of the justice system should have been set in motion.

11:25, don't take it personally that cops make more than teachers and do less work. I am aware that there are more teachers than cops. Although I don't know if that is the case in Jefferson and St Lawrence or not, since we need a roadblock and camera on every road. To make sure the injun chicks are not running drugs. Meanwhile we send for terrorist brides from terrorist states and give them a warm welcom.

As I said, the teachers failed this 18 year old and now the cops get a chance at her. Don't worry 11:25, if you are who everyone thinks you are, if the cops don't have any luck with her, you will have your turn next as a "probation/corrections" employee. Sorry you don't make as much as a cop or an education administrator...but at least you make as much as most north country teachers do.

I guess she didn't go to the Shop-with-a-cop day? it would have saved her..

12:27,

9:12 says,

Not trying to pick an argument here, but the PARENTS have failed this child. It is the parents responsibility to teach morality, not the teachers. I've got plenty of gripes with the teachers and the socialist indoctrination system we call public schools these days, but teaching morality is not the teachers job.

Teachers teach.

Police attempt to maintain order.

Kids are raised by parents. When parents are absent or shitty, 18 y/o end up on Newzjunky.
