HOTLINE Caller: Todd Achieved His Goal.....To Defeat You

I certainly enjoyed the conversation on the HOTLINE today with a sibling of former Council candidate Todd DeMar. The insights into the recent campaign were not a surprise, especially the assertion that the Captain's fourth place finish was a success as he contributed mightily to the victory of the Mayor-elect, even though doing so left his own campaign a reversal of the successful primary results.
We all saw that during the campaign and what is true is that Mr. DeMar is a political force with clear influence over a significant number of people. His handling of media was a joy to behold as he dominated the race without spending a dime. The HOTLINE caller affirmed this observation.
What is also clear is that in the end he was a Manchurian candidate, advancing actions and positions not in his immediate best interest but in the interest of others.
Influence is not always obtained by winning elections and the real winner of 2015 may well be the fireman who resumes duties at City Hall tomorrow secure in the knowledge he accomplished what he wanted to this year.
He also can legitimately claim he moved along the Western Boulevard project.
Behind the scenes a force to be sure, with friends in high places...

I heard part of that ridiculous call today.
Does he take credit for defeating Jennings too?
Conventional wisdom says that Graham had already fallen out of favor and the majority of Jenning's voters were going to go to Butler.

I threw up in my mouth a few times listening to that call. I don't recall anyone saying DeMar wasn't a "nice guy". Problem is that he like being nice to himself and his fire buddies at the tax payers expense.

I don't believe for a second that DeMar was banned from city hall for political reason. I have no doubt he was banned because of his demeanor toward the staff and others in the building. I don't believe Graham had anything to do with it other than he is the one who set off the fire cracker/fighter.

Not an ounce of truth to that call. Possibly the most idiotic thing ever reported on this blog. Maybe the GOP should convince Mr. Demar to join in the race for president??

The call didn't really hammer home enough how politically in bed, the WDT, CEO JBJ, Joe Butler, Jr. and Channel 7 and Council candidate Todd DeMar, were in thrashing the Mayor in order to ruin his chances at re-election; by sabotaging his campaign. Those aligned media resources were in the end critical, to making the public feel change was necessary, when in reality the charges and gossip DeMar threw at the Mayor ended up as 'smoke and mirrors' period. It appears Mr. DeMar was strongly encouraged to send most of the smoke signals to the Press to undermine the Mayor's campaign. Mike Flynn 'Middle Class Mike'

I wouldn’t know mayor since I and many others are no longer able to listen to your show anymore. Apparently, a minor technical difficulty that is preventing live streaming is much too complicated for the radio station’s staff and owner to figure out. Either that or they just don’t care.

Middle Class Mike got this one right. Channel 7, Curry, Donovan, Newzjunky capped off by the Times. Good to see Steve Smith and the Johnson lad on the same page.

While personally I felt that Mayor Graham served well, many in Watertown I feel had already made the decision that change was needed. Demar just helped drive the train into the station. I figure same as occurred years ago when Butler's dad won over Mayor Graham. To many people in Watertown seem to believe the job can be filled by anybody. The problem is it is a job that pays part time money that requires full time attention. Something that fortunately made Mayor Graham successful in the role. He was able to donate that time to the community and perform those full time responsibilities. I expect that not to many years from now the people of Watertown will notice the absence of a Mayor at community events. I have a hard time believing that Mayoral duties will not become an issue in the future as Mr Butler still holds a full time job. A job that expects his full time attention.

So 740 should we change to a Mayor being in charge of the COW, we now pay someone $125K to run the City?

Hey 5:52 last week the extra-perverted guy called in about the stream being down and Glenn Curry’s response was “I don’t care”

MCM is never right about anything and this is no exception. The writing was on the wall in the primary. The writing was on the wall last election when even the unpopular Smith almost ousted him. Sure, the MSN wasn't a fan of Graham's but that had nothing to do with why he lost.

In your mind 9:54 PM but what MCM said is now considered an accurate account of what happened this election from various sources involved in the campaign.

Keep it real!

Wrong 7:59...the final margin is proof of that. MCM is full of it as usual. If Demar was so instrumental in changing the minds of those voting for mayor, then, why may I ask, did he finish DEAD LAST after being in the top two in the primary. This conspiracy is quite fun to read though. Magically, those who turned in favor of Mr. Butler then turned against Demar. It wasn't close, never was. Let the Mayor move on and let this rest.

I think the manager and Slye did more damage where their bid to detail DeMar. The phony investigation over nothing gave Demar and the media the hook they wanted. That said, even if you accept the notion that Jennings voters would break two to one, Graham still would have had 46%. DeMar and the lack of coverage of any issues were a factor. Not the only one. But a big factor. That he is back from exile shows it was all show.

9:34PM, that doesn’t surprise me.
while I enjoyed listening to the hotline with mayor graham, I gave up listening to the profoundly ignorant, inept, howard stern wannabe live @ five show host glenn curry a long time ago. it is by far the worst radio show with the dumbest host and callers in the long and extensive history of local talk radio. no doubt in larger competitive markets the talentless and insufferable curry would be the designated coffee go-for.

He finished last 9:05 AM because the Mayor had to take time to highlight how he was throwing unsubstantiated charges at the Mayor that the WDT and Ch. 7 were reporting as fact for starters. The other factor is he really didn't project a stable personality, intelligent perhaps at times, but lacking in social skills DeMar eventually turned off his fellow firefighters and thee the public. In other words he earned a 4th place finish by being his belligerent self on the campaign trail.
