WDT: Excuse for Primary Loss is Central To Dem Hopes in Fall

The official results in NY 21 continue to trigger discussion on the reason Elise Stefanik won. I subscribe to the old theory that a good candidate who works hard and offers voters something new does well.
The cackling class keeps saying it was "negative ads" Of course there is no empirical evidence like before and after polling numbers. And so what if it did have an impact ?. Ads are supposed to motivate or suppress behavior...They are supposed to show the distinctions between products and generally attempt to reinforce or remind consumers of impressions they likely already held. And as we have said, politics at this level is not bean bag.
It was trench warfare for weeks in the primary and one  candidate won.
Republicans and Republican-leaning media outlets need to start looking ahead, as the Democrats and their candidate want the pining over ads to continue so they can pursue their theme that the GOP candidate is too much DC and not enough BC (Barnes Corners). In that sense the fall campaign will be a continuation of the premise advanced in the primary.

I flipped back and forth, on who to vote for in the primary. In the end I voted for the Harvard Gal because Doheny got rejected by the voters in the past when he should have won. I didn't need Rove to tell me that, I already knew that.

I think I had to settle for the lessor conservative of the two. (My reason for thinking this is because she supported Huntsman in 2012 primary). But I wanted to make certain we humiliate Woolfie in defeat instead of just beating him by an inch.

Mayor Graham PACs know the effect a nearly 1 MIL. dollar Attack Ad campaign will have, and it worked in this case, as Matt Doheny said,"My opponent had a good night. And Karl Rove had a good night too." Matt Doheny Republican Primary Concession Speech.

The total PAC spending for Stefanik was closer to 2 million and that kind of money sways votes. Now the question is if the establishment GOP has that kind of money to spend on a primary, how much will they be spending on the general election? Time to buy some media stock?

Understand Mike, some of us never even saw the attack ads and still wanted something new in the race. I for one don't watch local TV. Radio didn't seem to pick up as many ads. So it effected some of us in no way. That should be a good idea for the rest of the race. If you don't put ads anywhere else besides channel 7, you might not get your message out there. One more thing I thing many just don't understand. We are not people living in caves around NYS. We knew Matt's history. It had been brought to us four times. FOUR TIMES Mike! An attack ad with the same info wasn't new.

8:55am Hey Mikey, At least you have deleted the additional words that Doheny never stated.

Look back at all your previous postings and tell us why the unelectable candidate ever had a chance. According to you he was never and would never be suited to take this seat. Super pacs had nothing to do with your previous postings for over four months.

The MIL did not have any effect and if you were honest you would point out your previous postings where Doheny never produced any evidence to having done polling that ever showed him having a lead on Stefanik even as far as a month before the primary. I remember well Doheny's response on that first debate out of Albany has to why he didn't poll against Stefanik when he stated he would poll 20+ against Woolfie. We all knew then he was stating his usual garbage that he was in the lead, yada, yada, yada. Facts will prove that Stefanik was probably in the lead maybe the last 1-1/2 to 2 months, again when the pacs didn't even come into play.

Just seeking the truth. Also can't wait for Spinning Mike to state how Woolfie should receive super pac money from any of the far left and know you are chomping at the bit.

Give it up, you are just damaging Woolfie's chances.

Everyone is leaving out the most important issue here. And of course MCMike does not want to acknowledge this.

The Democrats wanted to run against Doheny in November. They knew he would never win, that Stefanik was the more daunting candidate. The GOP wants this seat and did not wish to have the locals, good example Jefferson County shooting ourselves in the foot yet again with someone who will never win the seat. Don Coon just made it more difficult and expensive to get this seat back.

I still believe that it was more of a personal thing between Rove and Doheny for his terrible lapse judgement in 2012 and they basically had to pi....s money away since they had no other recourse. Kind of like the Grimm situation in Staten Island.

The main point what everyone has failed to see is what a strong candidate Stefanik is and exactly why Woolf was elected and why no one from the Donkeys wanted to win. Not one of the run of the mill small time pol, conser. coming out of an Ivy no less, actual public policy experience, new generation, real people person, female thing and we can go on and on.

I personally want to see as much super pac money flooding this area, it's the only way we are going to take this seat back. Bet the DCCC has only allocated a certain amount of money to NY21 and then it's lights out. Woolfie has probably already been told this.

Wake up people this is just the usual dialogue from the Dems. Same talking points that we hear daily from Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.

Woolfie just wont be able to distance himself from the far left, Junie already got her marching orders from Isreal.

All I can say is thanks to Stefanik for being the one with guts to go head to head as far back against Owens. Can't also forget to include Mike Ring and Joe Gilbert.

Where has everyone else been all these years, beaten down almost to oblivion or near extinction. No more and I want to see as many super pacs come in to help Stefanik as possible. If we take this district and one or two more that are on the radar it will be the start of turning this state around.

ANON 8:55 PM It was a word for word translation --you said he never said a thing about PACs being the reason he lost during the concession speech --you lied outright. Get my name of your entries I'm tired of the groundless accusations -you think you can lie about what I say you're wrong - that's not going ot happen odd-ball. MCM

I can't believe ANON 8:55 AM thinks he can get away with lying about what Doheny said concerning PACs and how Karl Rove stole the Republican Primary for Stefanik with PAC money..

Anonymous said...

954.. Hit the nail square on the head.. Rove took very personal exception to Dohenys actions in 12. Remember when Doheny was selected to be one of the young guns.. The affair in the Washington bar, Jude Seymours stupid story trying to smooth it over insulted Rove and some key Republicans in Washington and in this State. Doheny then turned around this year and took the Norquist pledge when most of the young guns were dis-owning Norquist and his Pac... Then he had nerve to condem the use of outside interests...
Dohenys life style caught up with him and his personality and his wifes actions added up to disaster.

The only ones still talking about it are on this blog. Give it a rest Stefanik won,can we all move on?

The Dems have nothing to fear in Stefanik.

1:24PM No Mike, Just had to call you out. The only correct statement that you issued is what you posted today at 8:55, all the previous ones you added additional verbiage to Doheny's original statement.

Just wished to set the record straight. Now the second issue I have is that you insinuated and continue to state that Stefanik is a registered lobbyist. Everyone including yourself has researched that fact so get off that name calling please as well.

All I am asking is that you reread all your previous posts that we have read for the last four months more interesting the timing and then a day or two later after the primary you have outright slammed Harvard. Don't believe that I was the only one that noticed how quickly you changed modes but you proved our point this was your intention all the while.

Just an operative and a transplant and you stick out like a sore thumb.

Is that youridea of explaining away nearly 1 Mil. in outside PAC money. The people that work for Stefanik are jokes.

Anonymous said...

Jokes who know how to Win thank you! :-)

Anonymous said...

ANON 7:43 Stefanik won't be winning -- and that's a given at this point.

4:06 & 6:56 Can you please clairfy which people that work for Stefanik are jokes. I am not sure who is posting these since it seems so unclear to me whether these are still disgruntled former Dohenyites, Mares or Jude still in shock or now Woolfie cubs posting to continue further division. If it is the woolfie cubs posting seems pretty lame and Stefaniks have already probably figured that one out.

6:56- you are so brilliant. Any idea what the lottery numbers are for next week's drawing? Since you're a fortune teller I thought I would glean some useful information from your deep knowledge of the future.

2:39- I agree. I recall a previous poster saying exactly that. That the Republicans in DC felt they had been had in 2012 after his BS with the woman at the restaurant. They had invested so much time and money into him and his campaign and he squandered it so stupidly and the worst part was that he was unapologetic for it. Rove's attacks were totally personal. And the oddest part was that Doheny was shocked that his DC "friends" would turn on him. You have to question how he could not possibly have been aware of how frustrated people were with him in 2012. Matt seems to live in la la land. It total denial of his actions. He never thinks he does anything wrong. It's a remarkable psychological study.

ANOB 3:59 PM Why would I slam Harvard liar, my wifes ancestor was the 7th President of Harvard. Cotton Mather, FRS (February 12, 1663 ... of the Old North Church and president of Harvard

1:51pm Now it's Harvard liar. the only liar in these here parts might just be you. You have lied about you interest in community issues for the last how many years.

You failed to answer my second question as to why you continue to address Stefanik as a lobbyist and I like many others here would like you to identify your source as to where you found that Stefanik had ever registered as a lobbyist.

Mike, you are losing all or have already lost all credibility in the last couple of weeks.

Daily Kos says

On Elise Stefanik's official campaign website she claims to be a "small businesswoman" who works in sales and management for her family's business, Premium Plywood Products, which is based outside of Albany and distributes flooring materials and plywood products throughout the Northeast. One many wonder, however, how Stefanik could have any real experience working in her family's business when she has literally spent the last eight years since graduating from Harvard in 2006 working as a high-profile Republican political operative in Washington D.C., serving as an aide in the Bush Administration followed by a stint as communications director of the neo-conservative Foreign Policy Initiative think tank before working in the Romney campaign where she prepared Paul Ryan for the 2012 Vice Presidential Debate. In addition, information from Mantra.com reveals that Premium Plywood Products has an annual revenue of $50 to $100 million per year and employs between 100 and 249 people. Hardly the "small business" that Stefanik claims.

8:42AM I read that article only since you referenced it. Alot of misinformation in the same article. Have to question your intelligence if you believe everything you read especially from a far leftie group, the Daily Kos. I do recall that you continue to bring up the last two lines of $50 - $100 million and the "small business" Stefanik claims employes between 100-249 people quite often.

You are truly gullible....that family business employees 20 or so people.

Keep reading your daily dose of Daily Kos!
