Jefferson County Population Climbs Past 120,000

Jefferson County's population edged up since the 2010 Census, pushing the 2012 total over 120,000...We are whiter, poorer, less educated than the average New Yorker, but our per capital retail spending is above average, likely a reflection of Canadian shoppers.

so minorities are wealthier and better educated than Jeff County residents? I can believe that. Especially considering the WCS dropout rate of 40%, which must be around the average dropout rate in Brooklyn or some other inner-city hellhole.

This area has a higher high school graduation rate than the state average. That would have to closely correlate with going on to get a higher education.

If you look at the numbers, they skew it by not counting people under 25 with higher education.

It is also skewed because we have 10% more people that are too young to have a high school education or a college education.

There is no way we are less educated than the rest of the state or else we would be voting 80% for Obama along with them.

A lot of good info there ... I focused on these three on top of the Education level...

Per capita money income in the past 12 months (2011 dollars), 2007-2011: $22,574 (NYS: $31,796).

Median household income, 2007-2011: $45,559 (NYS: $56,951).

Persons below poverty level, percent, 2007-2011: 15.1% (NYS: 14.5%).

Note: Poverty level does not necessarily translate to those numbers being on public assistance either - as many around here contend on the Radio Shows that we hear all the time from the whiners about "free stuff." Nothing is free - try being poor once to see.

But, the key to it all is higher education ... that opens many doors and more critical thinking, too.

Don't forget that there only four people living in our county that make more than a million per year.
Which is weird in a county full of islands and million dollar island homes. {wink wink}

Or maybe...just maybe...guys like former radio station owners do have higher educations and they just pretend they live in Florida, because unlike Danny's pension, their income would be taxed.

Oops...I forgot about the tax free pension of the retired school teacher wife. Guess the rest of the income must be huge if it was still worth it to claim primary residence in Florida.

Gotta love those Obama supporters that still live here but don't, so they can avoid democrat taxes.

Wonder why?
Maybe because the county and NY State has the most rewarding welfare laws in the States?

I know people who transfered all the way from the South, to get on Medicad for an expensive surgery and after care, which the State they lived in would never would have payed for.
On top of it they recieving all the help the welfare can give them from Section 8 till food stamps and don't have to or need to work here either.
