Owens: USPS Saturday Delivery Decision “Outrageous

The decision to cut out Saturday mail delivery is not "outrageous", nor is it an affront to rural America.
Much as we all hate change, something had to give. I don't think this makes the USPS solvent, but its a start.
Members of Congress expressing outrage need to start outlining how they would cut expenses.

I agree with the stoppage of mail on Saturday if the other appropriate cuts are made. Owens remarks are made from his heart not his head in this case. Could have been worse however. Doheny could have won and the Chinese or Tawainese would be delivering it at forty cents and hour..

If they are going to skip a day it is dumb to make it next to the only day they already skip.

Many businesses are open monday to friday. If the money is not there it is not there. I get no mail than can't wait to monday.

Post office is going under because congress started making them put some money toward legacy costs as they were being accumulated. Yet Cuomo is proposing a worse ponzi scheme pension scheme than we already have, by kicking the can down the road for the city's obligations? Why can't the rest of government be mandated to fund legacy costs as they are accumulated? Then maybe we could make some cuts in Albany instead of passing stupid useless gun laws.

Your right about the day thing.. Actually I have thought it would be a good idea for instance for Doctors to have office hours on Saturdays, for schools to alternate days and have some kids go on Saturday. Ever get therapy on Saturday? Life goes on over weekends...How about politicans why cant theyw ork Saturday and Sunday? They could do their politicking during the week?

3:51 this has nothing to do with Doheny. Grow up.

Owens and his party needs to find ways to make things work economically, not just cry and moan with things get bad and something has to be done. Same with the hyteria about defense cuts. The Donkeys knew this was coming, and now they bitch about the damage to the economy caused by the automatic cuts in that venue. If you guys would adapt a budget and address these issues, you wouldn't have to fake some kind of after the fact concern.

What's "outrageous" Rep Owens/ Pelosi, is that you and yours ignored this problem for so long.

Owens is the one that took a free trip to China. Doheny is the one with a track record of turning failing companies around, even if it meant making tough decisions. Instead of calling it "outrageous" and wishing the post office was profitable Doheny would have actually offered a solution.

If only the rest of the government was required to balance it's budget

What's "outrageous" Speaker Boehner/ Sen. McConnell, is that you and yours ignored this problem for so long.

See, it works both ways.

When it's all said and done....

Schools, the mail, most government jobs all can be handled by the web. It's time to put the dinos down. For years TV has shown a future of using tablets to do all these things. Funny thing, we have tablets in most houses now. What happened?

The U.S. Postal Service has been broke for years. Raise the stamp to 50 cents, close on Saturdays and get back to a successful government entity. They are important for us. We will just have to remember to post important letters on the right day. The email and the damnable social networks will certainly destroy the postal service.
