On line payments have come to City Hall, with introduction of a long sought service to City residents.
Now if we can just get those Council meeting videos linked to major local news sites, so it will be easier for the public to follow Watertown's Greatest Deliberative Body.

You are 'charged' the price of a stamp to mail in a bill. You are 'charged' the cost of whatever it takes to maintain a checking account of get checks for your account, so you can write it out and pay the bill. So why the Hell is Dannie getting all bent out of shape for a minimal charge for online pay? It's a payment for the service it takes for money to get from point A to point B, whether it's snail mail or electronic.
For whatever reason, he's trying to conflate the issue as some 'excessive charge to the taxpayer'. If he doesn't want *any* additional charges, he can walk a fistful of cash down to City Hall and pay it that way.
Surprise, surprise... Danny expects something for nothing. I thought he was going to ask you to have someone come and pick his payment.
I heard the Danny types cal your show today as they couldn't' comprehend the logic of the city passing the processing fees along to the benefactor of said processing. (Why does that not surprise me?)
The next step is to offer to send out bills electronically by email. The fair thing to do would be to pass any savings of stamps, envelopes and envelope stuffing, along to the citizen.
But Danny will probably want to split those savings with the people that don't participate, just like he wants to split the cost of processing fees with the people that do not participate.
They have been doing this for weeks at the county where has the city been?
Simple. Just like most every other payment that citizens have to pay, exempt Dannie. He was a war hero, single handedly ran off the Viet Cong, almost rescued the Israeli hostages in Munich, and remember that part in the movie Superman when he turned the world back around and made time run backwards? That wasn't Superman, it was Dannie. He's just too shy to tell us about it. Exempt him from paying the fee. All of us can pick up his share of the charges. Why not, we do that with everything else.
