Home Prices Still Right Up There

              Despite reports of a softer market, asking prices for houses continues to amaze. A 3600 sq foot home, five bedroom home on Mullin Street is listed for $479,000.

The seller can ask whatever price they want...doesn't mean they're gonna get it. They only paid $215,000 for it last October (according to City real property website)...so, unless they put another $264,000 in improvements it's a pipe dream, IMO.

Maybe the new Watertown Housing Czar Debbie Cavallario can find 'the right kind of people' to buy the Mullins Street house.

Wouldn't want the wrong kind of people in there, not for that price. And if they're living there but not as a proper "family" there will be hell to pay. I think we should put cameras in all houses before they are sold, just to monitor the situation. We could sell viewership throught TimeWarner and use the proceeds to spend money through Debbie C's ADDHT services. I know I'd pay attention.

$479,000 and high taxes on top of that, no thanks.

Is this house certified against Debbie Cavallario's American Family Certification Act? I suggest the City install cameras in all residences before they can be sold. This way, continuing observation can insure that future residents remain compliant with Debbie's standards of living. City Fathers and Mothers can sell the views through Time Warner, then use the proceeds to throw money at Mrs Cavallario's ADHD business. If it saves one life and all that.

@6:14 PM

I don't find your post funny. Cynicals like you deserve to have neighbors like I have since 2 years thanks to Section 8.

In my neighborhood is ond of this rentals, it is rented to a "family" has three bedrooms and only one badroom. Recently I counted living at least 8 grown ups and 6 children living there.
The landlord don't care and Iam quiet sure, the rest of this people who is not documented for the rental of this house by Section 8 office don't live there for free and it is also a drughouse, with cars driving by and waiting outside in the middle of the night or people just released from jail frequenting regulary.Not to mention trashing the street and my driveway with their garbage and neclecting their children.
Neither the police, who is visiting at least once a week nor the Child protection services seem to care.

So I applaude Mrs. Cavallario for taking action. I know she don't want that kind of people or section 8 clientel destroying her neighborhod and taking the property value down with it.

"That kind of people" must mean 'military'.

Just be intellectually honest and admit it, 8:55. You hate that digitized-green wearing scum. Just let them off-post enough to spend their money and then retreat back to post. But god-forbid they attempt to encroach on the God-fearin' folk of Watertown.

@8:55AM

Wrong, wrong and wrong :)
My husband is a purpleheart,decorated combat vet. My stepsons serve in the militaery, one as militaery police officer, and both with mulitiple tours in Irak and Afghanistan and Iam not from Watertown. Our daughter is married to a soldier.

Thanks for your predjudice.

8:55 May you get yourself a free spaghetti dinner for siding with such a ridiculous line of reasoning. By the way, what kind of family lives in your house? I trust it is a properly enjoined group, with only the right mix of folks. I am amazed at the way some people think they have the right to dictate how others should live. But it happens more and more in these times of ours. And it usually comes from people who have very high opinions of themselves.

@11:14 PM

So you think Iam the bad person in this case? I lived very happily in this neighborhood fora lot of years till this people rented next to us.

I don't care how other people are living as long as they respect my property and my rights too as I too with them.

How about the right of happiness and security in your own home?

These people are constantly infering with my life and Iam stress out. There is traffic to all hours of the nights fights and yelling.

I have to clean constantly their garbage and trash out of my driveway and backyard, every other day ,they blocking my driveway.
I don't let my dog running wild and pupping in their backyard every day.

They where doing drugs behind my garage and as I told to get away from my property , they laughed at me. The police found needles there.

So who is disturbing who?
Who is the aggessor here.
Something is really wrong with society, when people have do defent that they want to be left alone and not to be disturbed and disrespected by their neighbors.

Don't do onto others ..... thats the rule I live by.

You will only unterstand my side of the story, If you will be blessed with neighbors like that one day and then you will understand.

@11:14 AM:

I don't care what mix of group people are or if they are related or what they are doing with their life or where their income comes from or even how much people are living in a house.
I do not dicate how other people live. but they should not force their livestyle on my either.
By the way, Iam up that late at night because they just had a visiter waiting in his car outside blasting his stero.
So how is that for dicating some one elses live and sleep?

All I care is that my property is respected and I that I be left alone and that I dont have to defence my self against people how don't know where their limits are.

I have learned that your rights stop, where a other persons rights begin and thats all I care for.

All of this anger over a post on home prices.

In ref. "these kind of people", I think that the ref. is towards a same sex couple-based on what I took out of the original story that was printed. I could be wrong.

@ 8:38, you may have been mistaken ref. the "digitized" scum in this case, but overall you are 100% spot on. This town was recently credited with the title of "most patriotic". Please.

Rents are up because people are greedy, and the government will adjust Soldier's housing allowance based on rising housing costs. If a self feeding cycle. Who ultimately gets the blame? The Soldier. Who should be held accountable? The landlord. and who really suffers? Everyone-especially the non-military folks from the area. So, blame the military. It's the easy thing to do.
