Deputies: Nice N Easy Employee Accused of Undercharging Customers

I am of the opinion that not every personal or business problem is society's problem.
Here's a sub shop worker who was giving away product so he gets arrested for the $83 shortfall. Sure, he likely did more till caught...but how much police and court time is spent documenting it ?
If you steal from me in this way, I'll fire you and you'll never get a reference. In fact, I know "employer speak"....That's how you tell someone not to hire someone without saying it.
Employers can impose greater sanctions than the criminal justice system that will just plea this one down to a bald tire.

You might have a point. Do you have a dollar figure in mind before it becomes societies problem and you opt to press charges? What do you think, $300, $1,000, $3,000?

But, if your business grows by leaps and bounds do you still control every time the cops are called? Or, do you put it in the employee handbook that company policy is not to press charges under $1,000? That way, you can "delegate" the decision, yet direct the decision?

Another thought: if a business pays property taxes to the tune of five times that of a home owner and additionally collects hundreds of thousands in sales taxes for the government, should they get to call the cops more often than the next guy?
