Funny thing about the "minimum wage". All the people who are debated it wouldn't ever think of working for either $7.25 an hour or $8.75 an hour.
It's all about the elites throwing a bone to the little people.
Cuomo: ‘Shame’ If Minimum Wage Isn’t Increased This Year

End the Senate Coalition Now"
Mayor Graham you're out of touch with how tough it is for low wage earners in NYS to get by with the current minimum wage. Increasing the 'Minimum Wage' isn't throwing a low income worker a bone -it's throwing him/her a life line and you should know that Mr. Mayor.
Every time the Governor talks about a piece of his legislation being watered down by Dean Skelos and the Republican Party, I think to myself he's throwing good money after bad, having mistakenly invested his political future into the concept of 'Coalition' government in NYS. Democrats will fight for him on the 'Minimum Wage Hike' and if Dean Skelos and the Republicans want to hem and haw, caste them aside and label them useless for the purposes of passing 'Progressive' legislation in NYS Governor Cuomo. The poor workers in this State have waited long enough and Skelos stands in the way of them surviving this recession. Take strong action and tell Skelos he's got to go.

It's about the elites pretending that they care.
“It's all about the elites throwing a bone to the little people.”
As demonstrated by your prying conversation with Samantha today. Except in this case it wasn’t even a bone… but rather a shameless exercise in ideological bias and distasteful exploitation for the sake of cheap entertainment…. by a smug elite aspirant.
“Great minds discuss ideas...
Average minds discuss events…
Small minds discuss people...”
I employee a number of people at minimum wage and I honestly have to ask myself, if the wage goes up should I reduce my workforce or turn the temperature down in my pool? On the one hand, I do like my pool extra warm. On the other hand, these snot nose kids that text all day at work, could probably use the money to update their body art.
Maybe I should ask Mikey. He has a lot of experience being unemployed and running a business into insolvency. Any advice Mikey?
You keep harping about the people debating the minimum wage would not work for it. By your logic why would men debate abortion rights? Isn't that what a representative does. Represent all the people, not just those like themselves.
Cuomo doesn't give a rats behind about low income workers, he just wants his votes and when it comes time to run for the big one, he will rally behind this. How about helping small companies pay their employees better with tax breaks? Help business grow, then justify the wage increase. Or, just build another three Casinos, that'll do the trick. Then, that money can go to per diem for politicians, more vacations for BAM, etc.. Do you think $1.50 an hour helps workers out in this recession?? But, wait, we aren't in a recession, ask BAM.
It won't matter, that increase will go back to the state/fed. in mandated health care, etc.
Very well said 8:25PM.
President Obama said tonight:
"No full-time worker in America should live in poverty"
I humbly advised Gov. Cuomo to set Dean Skelos straight 6 mths ago if he tried to water down his 'Minimum Wage' proposal by taking the 8:50 or 8:75 hrly rate he as Gov. proposed and make it a flat 9.00 an hour rate to show Skelos whose Gov. in NYS. The President set the bar at a 9.00 an hour Minimum Wage. Now Skelos should quit the nonsense and pass the Governor's 8.75 without a lot of hemming and hawing about it. If Skelos doesn't get in line Gov. Cuomo might feel justified in saying he wants to make the 'Minimum Wage' 9.00 an hour to keep workers out of poverty, just as President Obama said in the 'State of the Union' address tonight.

I think it is a good idea to raise the minimum wage,so workers can use it to pay for the recent raise in gas prices,so they can go back and forth to work.Trickle up economics,so the money goes to those who really deserve it,the oil company execs..and everybody wins!
Democrats always take the easy way.Raise taxes on rich, regulate business, stroke union bosses, borrow money, same old same old.
What about those folks who busted their butt to get an education and earn more than minimum wage? Raising minimum wage is in effect lowering my pay rate compared to minimum wage which I worked hard for to get well above! The President said a family of 2 earning minimum wage shoudn't have to live below the poverty level....well I say they never should have gotten married till they could afford to raise a family! Less workers will be able to be hired as well for larger companies just like OBAMACARE....you like this though don't you MCM?
Poverty level is relative. In Mikey's world, "poverty" means:
"having to do without anything you want".
Who the heck is this MCM?? An advisor, no wonder we can't operate a state. How much debt do we have?? Anyway, I personally don't have an issue with raising the minimum wage, if, IF, there is a way to assist those businesses in deflecting the cost of that increase. I have never once heard how these businesses are going to be helped with this hike, just, that it is "the right thing to do." But why is it, will it create more jobs, will businesses be able to afford it, etc... there is never any factual information surrounding what this helps. Will an extra 1.50 an hour help? Yes. Can businesses afford this... not sure. Will the state continue to attack small business, probably. Will this just offset ObamaCare. Not sure. The people making these decisions surely don't operate in the business sector, and surely don't make minimum wage. I am for it, if you can give a sound reason why it is good for everyone. Hell, raise it to 35 an hour, give people per diem on gas and fuel like our politicians make. Hell just print more money. Facts, Mr. Cuomo, MCM (whoever this is), we need facts as to how this helps and how businesses can affort it. A job paying 7.50 and hour is better than no job at all. That's the fear. BTW, the state doens't always pay minimum wage, as the mayor has pointed out.

The worker is paid a higher wage and can pay their bills and usually buy more consumer goods. That helps the economy. Get it? You have a right to fair pay when you work full-time to earn a living.
You have a "right" to fair pay?
You have the right to the pursuit of life, liberty and happines. Nothing more. Which means you have the opportunity to pursue financial well being. But you do not have the "right" to any pay at all. Any idea of what might be fair pay by your own standards is YOUR responsibility to earn. With regards to financial well being, you have the "right" to nothing. Get it?
You have a right to a fair wage. These bums aren't giving out health benefits or paid holidays you know.
Okay, show me in the Constitution of the United Staes where it says you have a right to a "fair wage" or any wages at all.

You Tea Party nuts think quoting from an article to highlight a point is stealing? MCM posts on Capitol Tonight and is taken seriously there and only refers with from there with quotes. Getting the point across with documentation is something a jerk like you should try once in a while fool. And by the way FOX news talking points have no creditability anywhere it counts.
