Cuomo Seeks Truce With Sportsmen By Proposing Lower License Fees

It's virtually unheard of for government to reduce a fee, so one wonders the reason behind Governor Cuomo's accross the board proposed cuts in hunting and fishing license fees. Mr. Cuomo made the proposal as part of amendments to his proposed budget.
Since what goes up never goes down, I assume the license fees are an effort to reach out to the sportsman and gun crowd angry over passage of the NY SAFE Act.

AS a hunter and someone that enjoys fishing, it still doesn't buy my love. He signed the papers and there is no going back. When November comes, well I hope he has a nice place for his lady to stay. I would vote the blind guy back in a beat. One thing the man doesn't understand, it's not all about hunting and fishing issues. Many people in this state enjoy sport shooting too. Many people just want the government to protect them and not run them. President Reagan indeed knew his stuff. Only to have Ron back. Cuomo voted himself out.

One thing a none sportsman never understands is the money we spend on our sport in this state. Just to be able to go and shoot at a range is a large dollar amount. Ammo is not cheap. Add the guns, food, and places to stay. It all adds up fast. Fishing is the same. It boasts people pockets in the Summer. Now the license fees have never been low for years. Needless to say, an out of state sportsman gets hit real hard here. I never understood how government doesn't understand that lower rates for someone just coming in for a day would flood the area with people spending money. But they don't. They charge hundreds of dollars to people who in most cases end out breaking the law. They can't afford to buy the license. So they hope not to be caught.

Are we angry about the safe law? Sure! Reduce all you want, the message will be heard at the poles.

Please no running lip lib response, I heard it all last week. I know we are the bad people and you are the good ones. We just suck for wanting to get outside in the fresh air and having some sport. We should all just get golf clubs and hang around a green field drinking beer and swap stories about our butt cancers. What a hoot that would be.

When he raids the 150 billion pension fund using back door borrowing...or as you and Mikey call it "smoothing", he might just as well spread the money around.

This is nothing more than a dangling carrot on a stick from the governor to try and appease those north of that bastion of Nanny statism, NYC with regards to his GUN GRABBING and the NY SAFE ACT. Sop the madness.....deal with actual facts Governor....like the fact that crime is at an all time low in NY State....you wouldn't know it though with his HITLER LIKE , Stop the madness speech during the State of the State address!

The idiot thinks he can buy support from gun owners and sportsman for a couple of bucks. What a looser!

Mussolini needs to learn that his hysterical and mindless attack on the Constitution have nothing to do with hunting. Only someone from Brooklyn is stupid enough to believe that crap. Or, someone who graduated from the public schools.

Wow, little Mario is really that dumb.

Not for nothing 6:45, but Reagan supported the assault weapons ban when it was enacted in the 1990's. And why the swipe at golfers? Most golfers I know also hunt and fish. Let's not play class warfare like the liberals do.

The money collected from licenses is in the Conservation fund and it can legally only be used for fish and wildlife programs. The State "froze" spending a couple of years ago and that means the money in the fund is just sittint there and it can't be used. The fund currently has a surpluss and sportsmans groups have been trying to get the license fees rolled back to the old levels since the fund is frozen anyway.

I support the ban on stupid people, not golfers. I think if they just wanted a feel good law, why didn't we have a national IQ test? Test everyone. The low numbers tell the rest of who goes to live in Russia or China. They both need cheap labor. Hell if I tested low enough to go, I go. I will make sneakers for the rest of you in China. I will make them all wrong so they hurt your feet, but I will do it for the better of man kind.
