Capitol Confidential » NYSUT supports smooth ride on pension financing

The teachers union supports Governor Cuomo's pension smoothing, and that's no surprise as the smoothing takes away any immediate need to make unpopular decisions to cut positions or deny raises.
What's clear is that there will be winners and losers under the smoothing proposal. Those who opt in versus those who tough it out for five or six years until contribution rates come down.

Nope, the fact that the teachers' union supports pretending the math is honest comes as no surprise at all. Lying makes sense if you are on the receiving end of government FreeStuff. If you are making a living off others, what you want is to keep this game going as long as possible. The Guv, just as the preiziedint, are playing the same game. Lie, steal from the kids, pretend it adds up, demonize the opposition, and play golf. And now we will listen to Mikey tell us all is well.

They also support it because it means you won't ask them to start contributing anything more than rare and nominal amounts we already seen.

You picked up that term "smoothing" awful fast. The correct term is "pension fund raiding".
