Sheriff Nixes HOTLINE Chat

Jefferson County Sheriff John Burns cancelled a scheduled appearance today on the popular HOTLINE talk show hosted by yours truly.
Sheriff Burns agreed to the interview yesterday following a questioning on channel seven and an interview with the Times.
Mr. Burns secretary gave no reason for the cancellation.
I suspect my irreverant, mercurial, insightful and brilliant demeanor made somebody nervous.
It's too bad. I was looking forward to just asking the questions I hear on the street. Sheriff Burns is a friend of mine and I have always worked for his election.
However, there are serious questions and I was going to ask them in my usual affable and respectful manner.

The good thing about your harmless interviews is that after you show them you could expose them if you wanted to, you allow the interviewee to talk circles, avoid answering and filibuster. No politician could ask for a better venue to get their story out, than your hotline

Maybe he had more pressing issues come up to attend to...like personnel problems?

One thing to remember is the fact Sheriff Burns is an elected offical. He does not work for the County legilslature nor the County manager. Thats not to say he dosnt take advise and I,m sure he got some today from the County Attorney about talking about issues the attorney might be handling.

You are the Mayor of our city. You are always the Mayor until no longer in office. Put the radio show gig aside and either be the full time Mayor or resign and pursue a full time job interviewing officials and working news storeis.

You can't do or have both. You have obligations to the city - meet them. This posting proves my point. I don't blame Mr. Burns for not appearing before you for grilling, if that was the reason for a "no-show." That is not your role on WATN: What A Terrible Network or anywhere else unless you think he answers to you as the Mayor???

Dan. The man has to make a living. The mayor puts in a lot of time and effort.
The fact he is well informed enought to discuss issues on the radio is not a bad thing.

I agree with Danny. Mayor I call on you to quit the Hotline until such time as you are no longer mayor. Or such time as it is not a democrat being scrutinized.

Dan you have lived here how long now and you still don't know that The mayors position here in Watertown is A PART TIME JOB. Many have said your a dumbass,I'm stating to believe them and you are proving thier point.

Dan just feels like Jeff isn't defending him enough when he calls in. The Francis is easily bullied.

The sheriff needs to go. He should resign effective immediately. And yes he is elected but he must answer to someone??
