Gun regulations in Cuomo's sights - Times Union

Republicans in the State Senate will get a quick lesson on how toothless their leadership deal is. This month Governor Cuomo, with the help of the Independent Democratic Coaltion will pass some kind of gun control bill, including a ban on so-called assault weapons.
For the Governor, it's another punching of his ticket for the Democratic nomination fight in 2016.
Senate Republicans will just have to go along on this one, in hopes of winning another battle further down the line.
The GOP lost ground in the last election and is depending Senator Jeffrey Klein's five member IDC to form a majority.

More people were killed with hammers than with "assault rifles", but that won't stop us from DOING SOMETHING, NOW, to placate the Dannie types. A stupid vote counts just as much as a vote that can read. How did we get to a point where such ignorance dominates our political leadership?

The GOP should take a stand and fight it. Let Cuomo build his own cross and carry it if that is what he wants to do.

What is it exactly that you think the GOP stands to gain by folding on all the issues? Their share of free$hit for their districts? No thanks.

And the Constitutional Rights of the citizens will take another hit because the general public is too effin' stupid to realize that those rights were put in the Consttution to protect them from the government. From the Roman Empire to today, history continues to repeat itself. The ancient philosphers were correct. People are too stupid and too lazy to make democracy work. Benjamin Franklins reservations about whether or not the peolple could keep our Republic form of government were well founded it would seem. Maybe George Carlin was right. Maybe it's time for the humans to die off and give some other species a shot at it.

The LIBS are a little late on this one. "Assault" weapons have been banned since the 1930's.

You said: "Maybe it's time for the humans to die off and give some other species a shot at it."

Let's test your theory -go first- and set an example for the depopulation of Planet Earth!

Really just joking - live a long life and stop worrying so much.

I didn't say it. George Carlin said it. And quite frankly, as a person who values individual freedom above all else, I'm damned glad I'm not going to be around 20 years from now. And your blase' attitude towards the direction this country is going illustrates my point better than any words possibly could.

“State’s DA Offer up Gun proposals for State, Feds”

The state District Attorneys Association has stepped into the debate over new gun laws with proposals for both state and federal lawmakers to consider. The group’s list includes items popular among Democrats as well as several items — including stepped-up punishment for gun crimes and expansion of Kendra’s Law regarding oversight of the mentally ill — that have been floated by Republicans.

URL above is at Capitol Confidential item and is a brilliant piece on all facets of coming ‘Gun Control’ laws that will hopefully be enacted; many of them mentioned here by me and others concerned with making America safer from gun violence.
