WDT: Watertown businessman to host “gun forum” at Dulles building Jan. 4

Watertown businessman Bart Bonner has rented the State Office Building auditorium for a "gun forum" on January 4. Mr. Bonner wants local police and state electeds to discuss with the public issues related to school safety, mental health and gun control in the wake of the Sandy Hook killings.
Mr. Bonner is an outspoken supporter of the Second Amendment, but holding the forum shows how much this incident has impacted public debate over these issues.

Good for Mr. Bonner. My hope is there will be an explanation on how anyone other than law enforcement or the military needs assault weapons any more than they need hand grenades (illegal), howitzers, (illegal) orbazookas (illegal). Why doesn't the Second Amendment makes these weapons legal as well?

Hey 1042 can you explain why NYS pays Remington Arms with 6million tax$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to make Bushmasters, My question is if no else has them why does Law enforcement need them??

They also should explain why anyone other than the press should have freedom of speech. and why we cannot yell fire in a crowed theater. I am like 10:42 and too stupid to draw a line of distinction myself.

I am afraid of civilians owning "assault weapons" because they are used to kill so many people everyday.

10:42. I realize why our nation is done. Its because of folks like you. And after all that money we pumped into education to encourage people to think. You should go to the forum. It can't do anything but help you. Try to sit with regular folks so you can listen and learn and not just hear people with your own group think mentality.

11:26 you have to understand that NY's taxes, oppressive business environment requires the state to offset the disadvantage to all business in some form or another. It's not just Remington Arms all business needs some subsidy to survive. Maybe we should cut all the subsidy's across the board and reduce the taxes that support them. Makes sense huh? Let's really help small business and the middle class.

Is there a "right to carry" to this event? Just asking?

ANON 8:44 AM

MCM would be glad to come and speak up, but you're so openly hostile to him, he'd be wasting his time.

Why bother to talk to closed minds?

Sick of NRA types

Here is my position on guns in general and one I've held a long time ... pass it to old Bart - although I doubt he would even consider it.

The gun debate, if we can call it a debate, or at least an honest debate, is NOT and should NOT be about too much or too big government - that is patently weak and a red herring.

The debate and policy should be about "big" guns, "big" clips, "big" magazines, "big" loopholes in the current laws which the NRA fights hard to maintain," "no background checks for selling guns at gun shows in many places," and "big" wink/nod policy for a few hundred bucks and under the table sales.

We must ensure (and I'm not precisely sure how) that only sane and responsible people have access to a gun and not an armload of Bushmasters with 30-round magazines.

Also, we do not need more open carry, or right to carry a gun in a bar or on campus or in a church, either. Those things are insane and must be changed. We have a right to be armed, for sure, the question is how and who has that right – everyone in America does not have a right to a gun. That mindset is flat out false. Let’s make sure they are in good, responsible hands. That is the challenge

My long-held views.

Dannie, you're a fruitcake. There is a right to carry most anywhere, unless it is prohibited by law. That's part of the problem. Fools like you have advertised places where there are no guns allowed, thusly no honest people go there armed, thusly idiots and Fools who want to kill people know there will be no one there to challenge them. They know it will be hours before police arrive. They then kill innocents. Then people like you have a period and blame the guns and the freedoms of the law abiding citizens. You make me sick. No one said all citizens have a right to own a gun. That's just another of your lines of BS. I'm here for you. Whenever you speak nonsense, I will be here to set the record straight. Happy New Year.

No Dannie I enjoy the right to carry, anywhere I want unless of course it's forbidden by the property owner............And then If I'm told to leave I leave and never come back armed or not, Maybe you should go the meeting along with Middle Class.....Mikey.
