Sandy Hook elementary shooting: 29 dead including 22 children at Connecticut school | Mail Online

The numbers have varied, but the death toll could be 29, 22 of them children, in a burst of mayhem thought to have been the work of 20 year old Adam Lanza. Details continue to be in flux but the nation was gripped today by the tragedy in a quiet suburban New England town.

It is thought the shootings all took place in one area of the Sandy Hook School and that the principal was killed. Lanza is thought to have slain members of a kindergarten class taught by his mother, who is presumed dead. Others. including his father may have been slain at other locations.
President Obama ordered flags at half staff for the victims, and in remarks hinted he has had enought of a series of these type of shooting sprees during his first term.

This has to be an untrue rumor. Such a tragedy can not happen in a gun free school zone. Didn't the murderer realize he was breaking the law by bringing that rifle into an area where all law abiding people were told never ever bring weapons? Time for some more laws. This time, we need to specifically mention ugly guns that are black and scary looking like the movies.

GUN control NOW !!!!!!! No more delays . How many must die ????

We have had 150,000 people killed in automobile accidents in this country since 1999 when the Columbine massacre occurred. We just had another fatality today on that deadly stretch of road in Antwerp where three kids and a mother were killed this summer. We should lower the speed limit on all roads to 15 mph and ban all guns.

To bad the pussy, worthless piece of crap took his own life. You hit it right on, fiend. These types should die a slow, agonizing , painfull death.

7:o6pm, that is possibly one of the dumbest analogies i have ever seen. And you wonder why this nation is so screwed up?

You can't just walk into a school today.
How did he get access?

We don't have all the information yet, so let's not have any knee jerk reactions.

Hey 650 how muchmore gun control do you want??????????? We have the toughest laws in the US.

People who want to kill find a gun or knife or explosives or what ever to need to do it.
No gun laws will stop them.

This guy was 20 years old and took the guns of his mother, who had them legally.

If she would have had her gun on her, she would maybe be able to prevent the murder on her and on her Kindergartenclass.

The worst school killing was not with gunes but with explosives and killed
44 schoolchildren and wounded 56 others inklusvie first responders at the scene in 1928.

9:29, Thanks for the empty insult.
Now please explain why it is dumb?
Please explain why death by automobile is a price we are willing to tolerate but death by gun is not? Surly many more kids are killed with cars than guns. Surly you are aware of historic cases where millions are slaughtered when the citizens are systematically unarmed?

Gun control laws were originally promulgated by Democrats to keep guns out of the hands of blacks. This allowed the Democratic policy of slavery to proceed with fewer bumps and, after the Civil War, allowed the Democratic Ku Klux Klan to menace and murder black Americans with little resistance.

(Contrary to what illiterates believe, the KKK was an outgrowth of the Democratic Party, with overlapping membership rolls. The Klan was to the Democrats what the American Civil Liberties Union is today: Not every Democrat is an ACLU'er, but every ACLU'er is a Democrat. Same with the Klan.)

In 1640, the very first gun control law ever enacted on these shores was passed in Virginia. It provided that blacks -- even freemen -- could not own guns.

Chief Justice Roger Taney's infamous opinion in Dred Scott v. Sandford circularly argued that blacks could not be citizens because if they were citizens, they would have the right to own guns: "[I]t would give them the full liberty," he said, "to keep and carry arms wherever they went."

With logic like that, Republicans eventually had to fight a Civil War to get the Democrats to give up slavery.

Alas, they were Democrats, so they cheated.

After the war, Democratic legislatures enacted "Black Codes," denying black Americans the right of citizenship -- such as the rather crucial one of bearing arms -- while other Democrats (sometimes the same Democrats) founded the Ku Klux Klan.

For more than a hundred years, Republicans have aggressively supported arming blacks, so they could defend themselves against Democrats.

The original draft of the Anti-Klan Act of 1871 -- passed at the urging of Republican president Ulysses S. Grant -- made it a federal felony to "deprive any citizen of the United States of any arms or weapons he may have in his house or possession for the defense of his person, family, or property." This section was deleted from the final bill only because it was deemed both beyond Congress' authority and superfluous, inasmuch as the rights of citizenship included the right to bear arms.

Under authority of the Anti-Klan Act, President Grant deployed the U.S. military to destroy the Klan, and pretty nearly completed the job.

But the Klan had a few resurgences in the early and mid-20th century. Curiously, wherever the Klan became a political force, gun control laws would suddenly appear on the books.

This will give you an idea of how gun control laws worked. Following the firebombing of his house in 1956, Dr. Martin Luther King, who was, among other things, a Christian minister, applied for a gun permit, but the Alabama authorities found him unsuitable. A decade later, he won a Nobel Peace Prize.

How's that "may issue" gun permit policy working for you?

The NRA opposed these discretionary gun permit laws and proceeded to grant NRA charters to blacks who sought to defend themselves from Klan violence -- including the great civil rights hero Robert F. Williams.

A World War II Marine veteran, Williams returned home to Monroe, N.C., to find the Klan riding high -- beating, lynching and murdering blacks at will. No one would join the NAACP for fear of Klan reprisals. Williams became president of the local chapter and increased membership from six to more than 200.

But it was not until he got a charter from the NRA in 1957 and founded the Black Armed Guard that the Klan got their comeuppance in Monroe.

Williams' repeated thwarting of violent Klan attacks is described in his stirring book, "Negroes With Guns." In one crucial battle, the Klan sieged the home of a black physician and his wife, but Williams and his Black Armed Guard stood sentry and repelled the larger, cowardly force. And that was the end of it.

As the Klan found out, it's not so much fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

The NRA's proud history of fighting the Klan has been airbrushed out of the record by those who were complicit with the KKK, Jim Crow and racial terror, to wit: the Democrats.

In the preface to "Negroes With Guns," Williams writes: "I have asserted the right of Negroes to meet the violence of the Ku Klux Klan by armed self-defense -- and have acted on it. It has always been an accepted right of Americans, as the history of our Western states proves, that where the law is unable, or unwilling, to enforce order, the citizens can, and must act in self-defense against lawless violence."

Contrary to MSNBC hosts, I do not believe the shooting in Florida is evidence of a resurgent KKK. But wherever the truth lies in that case, gun control is always a scheme of the powerful to deprive the powerless of the right to self-defense.

9:02, try to gain control of your hormones and your brain. None of the guns involved were automatics, as you state. I realize that accusation makes you all sweaty and swollen, but it does not add useful information to any debate.

CT is a northeast state, thus under the control of multiple layers of gun control laws. We see, again, that such laws had no effect on stopped such crimes. In fact, the guns used were owned by a schoolteacher, hardly the kind of person you or a Mikey (or Dannie) type would ban from owning guns. Or, are you suggesting anyone with an education degree not be allowed to purchase firearms? They do lack a certain logic. Maybe you guys are right. NO MORE GUNS FOR TEACHERS! If it saves one life... blah blah blah.

Shamelessly pilfered from the internet:

Once again, the nation has witnessed another high-profile shooting, where a cowardly thug made the conscious decision to inflict terror in a gun free zone.

On Tuesday night, a masked gunman killed two people at the Clackamas mall in Oregon, before killing himself. According to local residents, the Clackamas Town Center has a “no guns” policy, even for those who are authorized to carry guns legally.

Earlier this year in Colorado, James Holmes specifically bypassed closer theaters -- where guns were allowed -- to target the particular theater in Aurora where guns are prohibited

Like Holmes, several shooters in recent years have targeted gun free zones where their potential victims were disarmed by law: Columbine High School (1999), Virginia Tech (2007), and even Fort Hood (2009).

However, several potential massacres have been cut short -- some by average citizens, others by off-duty officers:

* Armed citizens prevented several potential tragedies from occurring in 2012. Samuel Williams came to the rescue of several patrons utilizing an internet café in Ocala, Florida. And in Garden Grove, California, a 65-year old woman sent five burglars fleeing from a jewelry store. In both cases, security cameras captured the heroic efforts of armed citizens who sent the bad guys fleeing -- even tripping over themselves, as they stormed out the doors.

* Five years ago this month, Matthew Murray entered a large Colorado Springs church, armed with several weapons and a thousand rounds of ammunition. But a woman with a concealed carry permit critically wounded him, thus saving the lives of hundreds of people.

* And at a Salt Lake City mall in 2007, an off-duty police officer brought a shooting rampage to an abrupt halt. “I was in a situation that I was carrying my gun,” the hero, Ken Hammond, told reporters.

In all the above cases, where citizens were able to stop evil, the good guys were carrying guns. There was no time to run to their cars. There was no time to run home.

The lesson is clear: good guys with guns save lives. And while bad guys may be evil, they are not stupid. They don’t typically target gun stores or police stations to perpetrate their crimes. No, they consciously select areas where their victims are disarmed by law.

ANON 12:18 PM
In your sick demented and twisted brain, have you looked out the window to see that the Nation's flags are flying at half mast, because of this national tragedy. The same old reflexive, NRA propaganda is not going to change the fact that America is in for a lot of soul searching about Guns and Gun Ownership. Quit the personal attacks. Your guts are all in hiding behind ANON and your brains are up your ASS.

Thanks Mike i realize that 9:02 could never be rational or objective he is simply a right wing gun nut who has been brainwashed by Rush .

The country will have some serious soul searching to do on gun control ,Killing of innocent children is simply a line that cannot be crossed wihout consequences

The casual use of weaponry is OUT of control and the neo con right is no longer being listened to by most people . 9:02 is simply not capable of empathy period .

Those are not good comebacks, Mikey and Bro. 9:55 and 1:14 gave you facts, you respond with personal attacks. This is why you continue to lose the debate on this issue. You repeatedly go all hormonal on the subject, then advocate for more and more of the same ol approach that will never work. When will you and yours learn that criminals don't obey laws? Sorry Mike, but if a legally armed citizen had seen this animal heading into a school with these weapons, the outcome might have been different. Guns are not the problem, actions are the problem. It's too bad that you and your ilk are always so willing to trade freedom for something that you know will have no effect on crime or the people who care nothing of the lives of others.

Mike has convinced me. Anyone who advocates for more and more and more gun laws has a screw loose. They lack a logical brain. The woman who owned these guns was a schoolteacher. Therefore, any schoolteacher or anyone with an education degree, whatever their background, should be banned from owning firearms. We cannot take the chance that these people will not someday go crazier than they already are. Whatdayasay, Mikey? Have we found common ground? Will it save one life? Is it time to draw the line? How many more must die? What do teachers need a gun for, expecially black guns? That could be a latent sign of racism, and we certainly can't tolerate that in a classroom. I would meet you, shake your hand, and support this common sense move to make our world safer for the children.

And to Mikey and other deeep thinkers..check out our champeeeen city regarding gun murders. That be Chickago, the hometown of your Liar in Chief. They have the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. They got layers and lawyers and no gun signs and restrictions to beat the rap band in that fair city. And what is it you want, more gun laws? In three days Chitown does a CT. You brain is deeeeply disappointing. Which is why, in the spirit of bipartisanship and hope, I say hope young man, I propose we put an instant ban on firearms for teachers. Them, and folks like you, who studied nothing for so many years. The results speak for themselves. We have to draw the line somewhere when it comes to gun sales. Some are just not responsible enough for such weighty decision making.

GUN control is needed that not only restricys automatic weaponry but also requires periodic re certification of mental capacity . Matricide and killing very young children is a social taboo that is intolerable
