Queens Democratic state Sen. Malcolm Smith is joining with Republicans in coalition - NYPOST.com

Insiders call him "smiling Malcolm", but Democrats are likely not smiling as Senator Malcolm Smith of Queens is joining the Indepenent Democratic Caucus, which reportedly will team with Republicans to keep the GOP in charge of the State Senate.
Followers of Albany remember Senator Smith was in the leadership role for a time during the disastrous and brief Democratic control of the Senate a couple, three years back.
He says that showed him how dysfunctional Albany can be.
Who would have thought Patty Ritchie would have Smiling Malcolm to thank for keeping all those majority perks. She should call Gray's and have a poinsettia sent to him.

IDC Bones are now laid bare exposing an ugly core:

that is so politically bankrupt, that Malcolm Smith may find it comfortable to operate as a Republican in the Senate waiting to run as NYC Mayor as a Republican after getting elected as Democrat. If he and the IDC get away with this power grab in the Senate, which will leave the Majority Leadership role in Republican hands government in NYS will have hit a new low.

It also shows how easy it would be for Gov. Cuomo to flip and run for President as a Republican if necessary if Hillary runs in 2016. If this is what the new norm in Politics is about in the Empire State. Say it ain't so Gov. Cuomo. The time for Gov. Cuomo to stand up and be counted as a Democratic Governor fighting against this arrangement has arrived, and Gov. Cuomo would be wise to understand that he cannot sit on the sidelines any longer. He must stop this naked power grab by the Republicans and IDC, and move forward without his fingerprints on this act of betrayal to Democrats in NYS. The time for Gov. Cuomo to act against the IDC is now.
