AP: Quest for Answers and Reasons Leads to Instant Analysis by Media

With news travelling so fast, the media is often interviewing key people in a case before they even know whats happening. The grandmother of shooter Adam Lanza was reached at her Florida home by the AP and her crying on the phone to the wire service is described in this story.
In a crime this big, the protocols about next of kin are gone as the appetite for information about the person doing something so heinous supercedes everything.
We all want to know why.  They tell us Lanza had decent parents, lived in a nice town, but was smart and remote with a "personality disorder."  Press accounts say he was "dark and disturbed" and was "a ticking time bomb."
He was a good shooter and speculation is he was a "gamer", someone who plays those shoot 'em up video games.
The old stand-by term in these cases of course is used.  "He was a loner".
He was thin and a goth, one who wears dark, foreboding clothing.
In other words, he fit the profile.

I am sure that, with sincerity, there will be calls for further limitation of second amendment rights. I contend that the unlimited abuse of first amendment rights that allow for the glorification of violence in films and incessant supply of "realistic shoot em' up" video games do much more to create a culture of violence than guns do.

Yep...the "Spin Doctors" are already trying to figure-out how to disarm America again over another senseless shooting. Here's an interesting article titled "How to solve our Gun Problem":

10:16 has it right on the money! There is so much violence in films and especially computer games.

I too, noticed that Obama was wiping away tears that were invisible.

Sorry 10:16, but it WASN'T a guy with a video game who shot 20 KINDERGARTNERS. It was a guy with automatic pistols. PERIOD.

Lame B.S. like "It's not guns who shoot people, it's people who shoot people" that allowed this guy to LEGALLY have the automatic pistols to shoot 20 FIVE YEAR OLDS.

Notice Majority Leader Boehner backed off his weekly message to "Let the President take the lead."

B.S.!!! He has no comment because he is afraid to alienate the NRA. He doesn't deserve to be a member of Congress, much less a leader.

The difference this time is, these families are from a upscale Connecticut community with power and money, and they ain't going to be pushed around by the NRA.

2:05pm, I heard only the audio on radio. There was no emotion in the president's voice.

And 3:38 gives us the usual partisan puke. What is it, never let a crisis go to waste. People with no regard for others will find ways to kill people.

And again my hysterical fool, there are no automatic pistols.

Sorry 3:38, the guns didn't mold his mind into one that would allow him to commit this crime. Spending thousands of hours over years and years massacring people in some of the most realistic scenarios imaginable in games made the unimaginable acceptable for him.

Mandatory psychological testing of Gun owners needed now:
Why is it that ANON 1:07 Max Volume and others here who are over the top partisan, about gun ownership and the 2nd amendment, see regulating guns and the people that own guns as the problem? The problem is that too many unstable people have access to firearms, and any regulation or gun counseling programs can only help us avoid tragedy. It’s not going to take guns out of the hands of hunters, etc. The second Amendment is here to stay, but what's wrong with controlling how and when guns are purchased, and evaluating people's mental stability to determine if their a risk to their community and themselves on an ongoing basis?

A license renewal program, with mandatory psychological testing of gun owners would be a good start. We need to start to prevent people with violent backgrounds and psych histories from owning guns, if they're judged to be a danger to society. The problem with the NRA is that they lobby our Representatives, and then say that any new restrictions on gun sales or ownership, is an ‘assault’ on the 2nd Amendment, while they show little concern for the potential for more ‘assaults’ by crazed gun owners on society, and the potential for new ones staring us down across America. Let's begin to pass stricter gun laws now for all our safety, including the safety of law abiding gun owners, who might not be carrying a weapon when a crazed killer appears with one.

Mike to buy any gun a person has to go through a background check through the FBI. Ask Mr Owens about all the lost Fully automatic weapons in operation Fast and Furious. Why is it the Feds make the rules and then cant obey themselves???????? Check with PattyPlate and AJR too.

Mike Flynn 'Middle Class Mike' said...

ANON 6:28 PM Only 60 percent of guns sold in USA require a background check. Some 40 percent of the weapons sold do not require a background check at point of sale. We have to eliminate unlicensed gun dealers in America and that should be a first step. You speak like you are informed, but you keep misrepresenting the facts.

MMM anytime a gun is sold in NYS by a Gun Dealer there is a background check done on the purchaser, where did you get the 40% from?????? Facts are facts the ATF,FBI and who else lost fully automatic weapons when they dealt with the drug cartel in Mexico, 2 Border Patrol agents were killed with them, Is this the 40% you speak of??? Switzerland gives a weapon to every citizen and they have the lowest crime rate, When weapons are banned in an area you create a FREE FIRE ZONE where only criminals will have weapons. Tell me where the unlicensed dealers are?

Mike Flynn 'Middle Class Mike' said...

The 40 percent figure comes from the Brady Institute for gun control. Mayor Bloomberg state on MSNBC today "It is known that 70,000 people lied on their background check forms and only 77 have been prosecuted to date." The whole system around gun sales and gun permits is lacks crediability. Where are you getting your information? Time and time again you've mistated the facts.

If they lied on their form isnt it the Govt's job to arrest them and throw them in jail???????? I still have my Brady Card so I dont have to go through the FBI check, Seems odd? Is this the same Bloomberg who bought his way to another term?? No MMM you have misstated the obvious, If you like Doomberg feel FREE to move your liberal Ass to NYC.
