WDT: County Taxes To Rise

Wow that county budget has gotten big.  $244 Million.
Taxes are going up too. Not on millionaires but on the middle class.
The proposed levy was "cut" by county legislators but the cut was done by changing revenue assumptions which is not really a cut in spending.
Imagine how big the increase would be if conservative Republicans didn't control the Leg by a 13 to 2 margin.
What happened to the County's fund balance ?
Watertown Daily Times | $244 million Jefferson County budget raises tax levy by 2 percent

Mayor, do you actually know the facts?

One revenue assumption was adjusted while the majority of the reduction in the proposed levy increase was in spending cuts. The one revenue assumption change represented slightly less than 25% of the overall adjustments the rest were spending reductions.

Ask before you hit the send button I will share information.

I blame that retarded tax cap that Cuomo came up with. Tax increase...if you don't take 2 percent every year you lose it.

Fund Balance is a term that politicians around here don t like to talk about and some of them doen t even understand its use and purpose. For example my town of Clayton used $950,000 of fund balance to balance the 2012 budget and their using $600,000 plus for the proposed 2013 budget. How much is left they don t talk about. When it runs out there will be a rude awakening for us taxpayers!!! Using fund balance to balance a budget is a NO NO by the state comptrollers office!! Go Figure.

Did sales tax decrease in some way? Are they collecting less tax money on fuel? Isn't it enough already?

At least SLC gets to blame Patty Ritchie for the loss of numerous jobs in health care(32) for not supporting our lawmakers in raising the sales tax to the equivelant of what every other county but three get.. I could understand not supporting it under normal circumstances and if other counties already didnt enjoy the benefits of it but thats not the case.. Yup.. there is 32 more unemployed people in SLC thanks to Patty Ritchies stance on taxes or I should say the Tea Party stance...
Ritchie can brag about saving the middle class new taxes, but whats happening now is the trickle down effect.. Shit runs down and its coming down in buckets on the poor and middle class in all of our counties thanks to grandstanding politicans like Ritchie...

I love your wit. Too bad there are no tea partiers on the board so that taxes could actually go down. Someone should primary the rinos who backed this tax hike.

Next time Bobby Ferris is on Glenn's show ask him, County Legislators need to ask themselves do we really need the programs the county has, and should we have kept the 5 million we gave DANC for housing?

Bobby Ferris sold Town of Rutland a $250 car starter because he thinks their million dollar highway budget is too small.

We'll accept the tax increase as necessary in Balck River, NY to maintain services and to keep our school system viable, and representative of our desire to educate our children in an appropriate manner. Bob Ferris or whomever the Republican or Democrat might be we'll back and we'll pay the increase. Not because we haven't paid hefty property taxes up here, but we know the costs of running this County are going up period. Its called getting real and we need to get real in our Congress too.

You ever wonder why people that don't pay taxes don't mind tax increases?

No MMM school taxes differ from property taxes, so townships used to use the Sales tax monies to be applied to actually lower the tax levy to the towns. where's Balck River?

Mike are you okay? What are talking about? Is it okay because you don't own property to tax? If you do, why would it be okay? Even if any of it went to the schools, it doesn't, it wouldn't be good. They have enough already sir.
