Times Scribe Leaves After Covering Raucous Campaign

Wow, not only are the campaigns over, but so is the coverage.
Times political scribe Brian Amaral is leaving the paper this week to take a job in Jersey, following a couple of years on the political beat.

Best wishes to him and we will see who gets the beat next, although with few races on the horizon, there is not as much to write....
Brian tells me he doesn't know if his political blog will survive him.

Press was remiss in Campaign Coverage:

Brian will be missed, but he had to walk a tightrope that was impossible to traverse. In a Presidential race where Mitt Romney ducked the Press for the last six weeks of the Campaign and Republican Challenger Matt Doheny didn't have time to comment to the Press, or just wouldn't comment at all Congressman Bill Owens was always ready to comment on any and all topics. That is the lasting impression he made this campaign. That requires leadership and Character traits that Romney or Mr. Doheny never displayed this campaign. The Local Press should themselves be ashamed at the stories they failed to report on or just openly suppressed this election. Congressman Bill Owens stood in stark contrast to the Newspaper editors and reporters of this district, who really let the public down.

I really enjoyed Brian's views. Its to bad that he is leaving for greener pastures. Good luck to him.

No great loss!

He was not a tremendous reporter.

This poor guy got dumped on so many times this election season I don't blame him for leaving. Doheny disrespected and belittled time and time again, dismissing him as an annoying flea unworthy of conversation. I don't know why Matt did that. Aside from the fact that it was impolite, didn't Matt realize that every blow off or cleverly evaded question would be reported in his column? It completely flew in the face of Matt's position that he was a man of the people. He condescending attitude reinforced the impression that he thought he was better then all of us.

Sad, Sad, Sad...The only "square shooter" in the whole damn paper... Now we are left with George Will, and whatever free stuff the GOP "Senior fellows" give out from the various fake "Institutes".

I'm surprised Amarel didn't punch Doheny for all the times he refused to comment, answer a question or just plain run away to avoid be cornered by the press. Good luck Brian .

Its a shame that someone does not cover the political corruption beat in the north country, you know, the stuff that we know is going on but for some reason, the media will not put out there for the people to see. Not sure why, it doesnt, but what a mess some governments are here, and no one covers them, in fact, supports what goes on by not covering the stuff. i stopped reading the times years ago anyways.

He will be missed. He was informative, entertaining, honest and balanced. And kudos to the paper for printing his words. Often times a paper will completely edit out criticism of an endorsed candidate (although I still imagine there was a bit of that going on anyway...perhaps that contributed to his decision to leave) so everyone deserves a round of applause here.

Brian was hoping that Doheny would pay him!I gave Brian a realy good story to write he just failed to understand who realy knows the feel of the people, what way the wind blows is where he will go! along with his buddy Jude.Jude I just have one thing to say to you the cops should have never been called you could have got your boy on the phone! After that it was everday Juston ????? what happened of course I had to tell my side of the story I know alot of people in this area I also have alot of connections in Lake Placid along the North Way I lived there for a few years it's funny that St lawrence County with all the student voters you could not apeal to them!that boggles me.Jude was not the guy for the job from the start for many reasons.I noticed when he was being interviewed that he could not hold it together. He was a much better scribe.Duff would have been a better choice for a front man.

Romney winning was a Juston prediction. Give me a break! He got on Owens badwagon this time, but last election was a big advocate of Matt Doheny who we all know lost in 2010. The list of Juston's losing picks goes on and on.
