Wiconsin Congressman Paul Ryan is the running mate and will be announced this morning in Norfolk, VA.
The chair of the House Budget Committee and architect of the GOP plan for deficit reduction is considered a conservative icon and a personable blue collar pol, who at 42 contrasts with Mr. Romney in age and style.
Mr. Ryan is a good campaigner but has a resume lacking in private sector job experience and a government resume limited to service in the House.

re: "...lacking in private sector job experience..."
LOL! Waht else is new about gov't drones?
isn't that the complaint against Obama, no PS job experience?
IMHO THIS choice will hand Obama the victory. Ryan is a lightening rod who will not appeal to moderates or swing voters in the mix-- too bad !!
Other potential VP choices may have made this a real contest BUT if this holds i'm betting its not going to hit pay dirt. Romney certainly has shown some poor decision making on this one and apparently didn't learn from McCains debacle .
The Veep should be a uniter although Biden hardly fits the bill too. Ugh Politics
Mitt Romney has failed another test to represent the interests of all Americans, not just the angry few.
Ugh! I hate politicians that are about fiscal responsibility!
For a very brief moment the political bigwigs in the republican party started had comparing Doheny to Ryan. Young, fresh, conservative republican with financial acumen. But then...(sigh)...the DC photos emerged followed by the foolish response from the campaign and high hopes of the party for a potential new republican star faded to dust. It's too bad. Without Doheny's character issues he might have been able to put the district on the map. Aside from character, Doheny and Ryan are very similar guys from blue collar roots (although Doheny soared to millionaire heights in the private sector). It's such a shame.
NY54inSeptic is right. Romney failed us. He's terrible. I hate him. In the spirit of Obama Romney should have nominated someone who avoids the truth and has a reality show. A Justin Bieber type. That would have been cool. PUKE.
The uninformed would do well to watch this short, three-part series which explains the core of Paul Ryan's appeal.
The Path to Prosperity:
Episode 1: America's two futures
Episode 2: Saving Medicare
Episode 3: Steps to Pro-Growth Tax Reform
This should play into the rope-a-dope fight very well for Mittens.
The only issue moderates can be brought on board with is fiscal maturity and responsibility. moderates are split on the gay marriage issue and the national healthcare issue but sensible spending is what the Tea Party is about and it is what is lacking in libruls that makes many moderates hold their noses when voting for libruls.
It will be interesting to see if the guy that made a quarter billion dollars, raised a nice family, and governed Massachusetts competently in spite of its ultra-librul branches, is as dumb as the libruls would have you think.
appeal to whom? Ryan will be Omaba's best vote-getter
I don't think Doheny has blue collar roots - didn't he have money growing up too?
I actually think Doheny is going to be Obama's best vote-getter. He is so polarizing. A lot of people plan on getting out to vote (for Owens) simply because they despise Doheny so much. So if otherwise non-voting passive Owens supporters plan to vote this time, my guess would be that they will vote for Obama while they're in the booth.
8:33- no, Doheny had a very modest upbringing. In fact, his mom still lives in the house he grew up in in Alexandria bay. But that is the strange part...matt owns at least 4 or 5 grand homes while his mom's house is about the size of one of matt's garages. It just seems strange that with so much money he hasn't at least helped his mom give his childhood home a facelift. Remember when voters got after matt in 2010 because he was building his mansions while his mom's house had the paint peeling off of it? It's weird.
It is weird isn't it 8:00 AM?
I just don't' understand people like Matt's mom that don't want free$tuff. Matt would not even be alive if it were not for his mother and he would not of made his millions if it were not for his mother. She should ask Matt for some free money. Matt won't miss it. He has plenty. Why doesn't she ask him? I just don't understand. Can anyone explain it to me?
Does she even have an i-phone or a tattoo or free birth control if she can't afford to paint her own house? Why doesn't Matt buy her that stuff? She cannot possibly be happy without it.
11:27- it would not only have been a courtesy to his mom to make sure her house gets painted, but it would also have been a courtesy to the neighborhood.
11:27- I understand your point and am a fan of independent women, but in my family it's called sharing, not "free stuff". My parents took care of me when I was a kid and I intend on taking care of them as they age. I certainly hope that they will never view my support as "free stuff". There is a big difference between taking handouts from the government and receiving a gift from a loved one.
Maybe his mother has wrinkles and he should offer a face lift to her first? And then the whole neighborhood benefits when she is out in public wrinkle free. Surly she would want a free facelift? What kind of person would not want freeStuff? Only an idiot that's what kind. Especially free stuff from their son. Its a courtesy.
This is an odd debate. Do people really think that when family helps out family they are getting "free $tuff"? What a sad statement on family if that is the case. I am a bit speechless after reading this thread, to be honest.
4:57 there is hope for you. In my family it is called an underhanded diversionary tactic intended to take the heat off the guy that voted to take 700 billion dollars away from everyone's mother in the county.
It is presumptive to think that Doheny's mother wants her house painted or that she cannot afford to paint it or that she cares what the neighborhood thinks of the current paint job on her home.
My mom won't even let me bring her a gallon of milk without sneaking a couple dollars into my pocket before I leave her house. that is the attitude of a lot of parents. Especially the ones that raised makers instead of takers.
FreeStuff, FreeStuff, FreeStuff, FreeStuff…. Did I say FreeStuff? Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t… I can’t remember so I better say it again… FreeStuff, FreeStuff, FreeStuff.
I know, I sound like a senseless parrot repeating the words FreeStuff over and over ad nauseam but I can’t help myself. Squawk, squawk… FreeStuff, FreeStuff, FreeStuff… Squawk, squawk…
Squawk, what’s that you say… PAINT!?! Squawk… FreeStuff! What’s that… a FACE LIFT!?! Squawk… FreeStuff! What now… COOKIES and ICE CREAM… TOILET PAPER, WATER, AIR!?! Squawk, squawk… all FreeStuff!!
Hey, here’s something I bet you never saw before -- Free$tuff. Do you see it? I substituted the S with a $ sign. It’s another way to use the words FreeStuff… pretty clever, huh? I think invented it or something.
Okay, my head hurts now and I am tired from saying FreeStuff so much… I’m going to bed… where’s my ‘meds?
Did I say ‘MEDS!?!... Squawk… just more FreeStuff!!
Squawk… FreeStuff…
Did I say FreeStuff?
Squawk… more ‘meds…
FreeStuff… FreeStuff… FreeStuff…
Squawk…
FreeStuff…
FreeStu…
Zzzzzzz….. zzzzzz
12:24- I couldn't agree more...between the endless commentary on free $tuff and Owens being under Nancy pelosi's desk I am very tempted to stop reading this increasingly redundant blog. Don't people know that when you repeat the same argument again and again as a response to every issue or question it completely loses it's efficacy. Come on guys...you should be smarter than this!! Matt helping out his mom is her getting free stuff now??? That is ridiculous.
Awwwwwww....did we hit a nerve?
Sorry, I forgot it is not called free$tuff anymore.
The librul term is officially "access to".
Dohney's mom deserves "access to" having her house painted.
Doheny's mom deserves "access to" cosmetic surgery.
Libruls deserve "access to" other peoples money.
Wow 1:24, you just won't give it up. You can talk about cosmetic surgery or whatever other nonsense you want to bring up but you are just driving home the point the Doheny and apparently his supporters have no sense of what it means to be family. Please recognize that you are in the vast minority here when you say that family helping family is either getting Free $tuff or having access or whatever. Your view of family is so materialistic it is sad. That being said, if that is how you view family, then correct, in your eyes matt should not give away his mother anything, including Christmas and birthday presents. He should keep it all for himself. Parents are just a bunch of takers. Why should anybody do anything for parents...they are just looking for free $tuff!
I agree with 7:26, this is a really odd (and very sad) debate. I think you just took your free stuff (oh sorry, "access to") argument a little too far when you started applying it to family too.
By the way, plastic surgery? What are you talking about?
Sure 10:31 I give it up all the time.
It's a fine line between and sticktoitiveness and the stubbornness you struggle with.
This election is about the immature, negligent, irresponsible, stupid, corrupt vote that Owens cast for Nancycare. It is not about houses that may or may not need painting and it is not about if Dohney has, or has not, offered to paint his mother's house.
We don't know if Doheny offered to paint his mothers house.
We don't know if Doheny's mother would like to have her house painted.
We definitely know that it is none of her neighbors business.
And we don't know if She could easily afford to paint her house if she chose to.
Nancycare (the thing this election is about)and the house paint topic have only one thing in common and that is:
"Free$tuff" or as you prefer to call it "access to".
Ha! I see Owens is siding with evil Wall Street and coming out against raising the minimum wage.
actually, I remember a 2010 Doheny tv ad - in the background there were the painters that he hired to paint his mom's house. So this whole argument seems moot.
