Perhaps emboldened by the increasingly clear choice in the race for the White House, local Congressional candidate Matt Doheny is doing something his GOP predecessors wouldn't do.....That is take on Big Labor.
In the past, Republican pols have descended the stairs into the basement of the former Clearview Restaurant in Gouverneur to seek and usually get the endorsement of the labor bosses assembled.
Perhaps knowing he is too much of a free marketeer for the Ron McDougal crowd, Mr. Doheny issued a broadside today, claiming Labor has bought and paid for Rep. Bill Owens with over a half million dollars in contributions.
It's risky because so much of the local economy is built on public employees. Of course, just because you are in a union doesn't mean you are oblivious to the looming economic calamity caused by high debt and deficits.
Labor Leaders Own Owens | Doheny for Congress

More negative campaigning from Doheny. Is that his entire campaign strategy?
What else would you expect a “shill” for the plutocrats to say?
Former Congressman McHugh wasn't "too much of a free marketeer for the Ron McDougal crowd." He routinely went to the Trades Council meetings, sought and won their endorsements. Guess working men and women are just 'riff raff' to millionaire frat boy Doheny. We may not have as much money as you - but we have way more votes. And we will remember in November.
The union thugs have given half a million to Owens but it doesn't make them plutocrats. They are just simply rats. Rats that take from the tax payers and from your grandchildren and dole it out to themselves.
Doheny will be a "shill" for Wallstreet, if elected.
So take your pick !!!
John McHugh always got the labor/Union vote and support ... Doheny must be very pissed.
I can't stop laughing. (Hint: Labor likes to stay with the incumbents, basically) ... a fact.
Who builds everything? Working people. Who takes advantage of them? Owners and bosses.
I have an idea- I would like Doheny to name workers' benefits that bosses thought up out of the kindness of their hearts. If there is no union labor, you'll all be working for minimum wage.
John McHugh got the union support because he was supporting "card check".
"Card check" is a law that forces businesses to allow union thugs to come in and conduct votes to unionize. But your vote is not allowed to be private so you would pay the price if you didn't vote the way the union thugs wanted you to.
Does anyone understand what Dannie is talking about this time? We can't stop laughing at Dannie.
A fact.
Mayor, I read this last night on the WDT Blog. http://www.watertowndailytimes.com/article/20120814/BLOGS13/120819972/0/search
Why haven't you covered this? This sounds like news to me!! One of his main staffers left to work on an Assembly race?!?! Sounds like serious troubles within the Doheny camp.
Anon 8:42. If you were to remove your head from you ass, you might be able to see things clearer instead of only in shades of brown ... if you git ma' drift?
Who suggested there should be no union labor?
What we all want and need is the one thing FDR was right about...no unions for public employees. Either that or all public employees should recuse themselves from voting based on the conflict of interest.
I ageeed with you Mayor until you got to the deficit part. Big labor didn't borrow from the Chinese to fund two wars and the prescription drug part of medicaid. President George W. Bush and the Republican Congress did. Remember?
Also, big labor didn't cause the deregulation of banks and
Wall Street leading to the recession of September 2008. Thanks to the Bush Admisistration for that. Remember?
Furthermore, Big Labor did not cause the foolish debt crisis fiasco of last summer which tanked the stock market for 2000 points. We can thank the Congressional Tea Party and a gutless Speaker Of The House for that. Remember?
So Mayor, how is YOUR 401 K doing? Because the rest of us got tanked big time. But then again, Doheny and his buddies didn't.
2:04 - I have to agree with you...seems like that should be bigger news than Doheny's ability to recite a bunch of towns off by heart. I wonder what happened - that is a pretty major departure at a pretty critical time.
EXTRA, EXTRA…READ ALL ABOUT IT!! DOHENY CAMPAIGN SUNK…
STEERING BLUNDER!?!
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/books/booknews/8016752/Titanic-sunk-by-steering-blunder-new-book-claims.html
And theres the profane Dannie we all know and love. You seem to switch from profanity to threats of lawsuits. I'm not sure which I prefer. Let's take a poll.
Profanity... what profanity?
