Why Can't You Wash a Car and Make Money Doing It ?

The entrpreneurial spirit and capitalism has been so beat down, two young ladies trying to make some extra cash by washing cars on a Saturday afternoon spent a good deal of time answering questions about who gets the money.

Two young ladies held a car wash Saturday at Fort Pearl and did quite well for their time spent. They worked for four hours in the hot sun with the goal of earning some cash.
Nobody asks who gets the money at the Precision Washes in town. Why should everything be a dressed up as a benefit ?
I applaud Emily and Taylor for taking their time and their sweat equity and earning some cash instead of waiting for their EBT card to be reloaded so they can go shopping.
They are going to do it again on July 28, so get your ride dirty.
You want your car washed by a machine, it costs ten bucks. You want your car washed by two attractive and personable young ladies, you should pay more. It's the immutable laws of economics at work.

most for-profit businesses are clearly denoted. A wash at the mayor's business premise raises some eyebrows

They could just make a small donation or have a charity donation "bucket" to ease the concerns of the naysayers.
I join you in your praise. They aren't looking for a handout, you get a clean car and they make a couple of bucks. How does anyone lose?

Especially since original signs said "benefit car wash".

And why are your eyebrows raised. It is a business.
I raise my brow over the "not for profits" with the six figure executive directors, who get people to raise money for them.

Such bullshit. Raises eyebrows my ass. You go girls and all that. Its still a free country, for a few more months anyway. Go home and have your overweight, ugly wife wash your car. Then ask her where your money goes.

More pics of Emily's car wash (and less of the wedding of the century this week).

You got that right 2:56 PM. Every time I hear the term non-profit I bust up laughing, or get someone pissed off with my wise ass comebacks on that subject.

Um your the Mayor right? Doesn't the city require a permit for a business to set up on the street? When was the last time you saw people (other than at a real car wash) washing cars for profit? Usually that's what school classes do to raise money. Bikini's send a different message. Will they be reporting there income?

Good Posts 551 and 416, we certainly have our share of NFP's in the area gobbling up every tax $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ there are, all the while riding some cause for all its worth.

You mean like when your kids go out in the winter and shovel walks for money and don't report the income.
Or the kids who mow lawns or rake leaves for the dreaded "profit".
Teaching that making money and working are bad is the wrong message.

Come on, who cares if the girls washed cars and got some bucks for school? If it is an issue, I have a driveway and a hose.

I hate rich people and now I hate good looking people too.

“I hate rich people and now I hate good looking people too”
Well don’t feel too bad, it’s a safe bet that “rich people and good looking people” probably like you even less. Try and look at the bright side… if you add them to your already extensive list of everyone else you hate then you pretty much have everybody covered… except yourself of course.
