WDT: Ritchie Campaign Has an "Oops"

A dispute over an improperly printed campaign check that included a phone number at the County Clerks office represents an error for sure, but Democratic reaction to it is an indication they intend to try and make a race of it in the 48th District, where Senator Patty Ritchie is being challenged by Oswego County Legislator Amy Tressider.
Democrats have jumped on the miscue, charging it is a lapse in ethics and judgement. Republicans acknowledged the error and say it has been corrected.
The Tressider campaign was aided last week by a story where the candidate's image was digitally removed from a ribbon cutting photo by someone presumably trying to not offend the Senator.  It was a bush league move....but one Ms. Ritchie's office denies any involvement with.
Ms. Tressider is a long shot candidate, but she is a St. Lawrence County native who now holds office in Oswego County, giving her some traction on both ends of the three county district. She is being aided by the wily Middle Class Mike (Michael Flynn), an old style, shrewd pol not afraid to mix it up.
In the end, these kind of free stories provide an opening for Ms. Tressider, but it still comes down to money and organization, both of which Ms. Ritchie has a large lead in.
Then there also is the issue of who voters want in charge of the Senate....Republicans, or Democrats headed by current minority leader John Sampson, who just wrecked a new state owned vehicle in an accident in NYC.

Watertown Daily Times | Ritchie denies ethical lapse

Seems to me that the Rithcie campaign did the same thing a couple of years ago when calling a Dept of Social Service no. in Oswego Co.. Or was it letters addressed to employees at work.. Either way its unethical but that dont matter to them..

It comes down to money alright. Our money. Ritchie already gave it away like a drunken democrat. So she is a shoo-in.

Makes you kind of wonder - Ritchie is being investigated in the same scandal that involves the Oswego Co clerk for that company both offices had contracts with. Do you see an 'ethical'lapse pattern here? I do.

This would not be considered a good week for Ritchie.

BUT, Middle Class Mike's involvement for the opposition will definitely turn it into a good campaign for Ritchie in the end. He is so far out there that any reasonable human being looks at the views he takes and then considers the alternative.

Hennessey should lay low on this issue also, he runs the Democratic party from a taxpayer funded Board of Elections office and position.

Does this mean she will only win with 70% instead of 75% of the vote?
No one pays attention to this stuff.

You are never going to get your freeStuff for the fairgrounds if you keep this type story going.

So why would Ritchie be mad at the mayor drawing attention to Middle Class Mike or Minority Leader Sampson ? That should help get that free stuff.

It seems that the Democrats are pretty desperate to manufacture any kind of issue against Senator Ritchie.

As I recall, the Democrats had control of the St. Lawrence County Clerk's office for a year. Was Gavin answering for the phone for the senator?

It must have been pretty crowded in there.

Hey St. Lawrence County is a county crooks anyway, Remember the fraudulant miles/gas reciepts filled out by county Legislators, McKinnon being one of them, Or how about Leg. Peck, Bankrupt and he has control of taxpayers $$$$$$???.

As a newer resident to the area, I am a little concerned over this article. A State Senator should know what is going on, and provide valid proof/evidence of no wrong doing. I need more than an "oops". It appears that Patty is not in control of her campaign. Is this normal?

I cannot believe that printing a public office's phone number on a campaign check was an unintentional action by the campaign.

Patty Ritchie's campaigns (no matter the post being sought) have always stressed her integrity, honesty and no-nonsense character, YET this "oops" incident flies in the face of that profile. Ritchie is meticulous and purposeful in every public display. She has chosen those around her carefully- she and others have professed the caution she applies to "hires." I can't imagine the matters about the highly litigious area of CAMPAIGN FINANCING would suddenly be a domain where Ritchie chooses to take a "lax" approach.

I'm left questioning: what else might be going on in the Ritchie camp that I have yet to be made aware? I like the transparency that the Tresidder campaign is demanding. What I've read about Tresidder suggests she's a local person, who cares about local issues. I like that.
