WDT: Owens Tries to Carve Out a Niche a Little Bit Away from POTUS

The scramble is on to avoid being called a tax hiker but still be seen as making the more affluent among us pay "their fair share" in these deficit ridden times.
President Obama wants to extend current rates for people earning under $250K while allowing the so-called Bush era rates to rise for those higher than that.
Anxious to appear to be keeping a little difference from his party's President, Rep. Bill Owens says he wants the threshold at $500K.
That's a difference without a distinction, or whatever the expression is.
Only in an environment where you can print your own money can there even be a debate over restricting revenue without being willing to cut expenses.
The President's ploy is good politics...good class warfare politics.
I am tired of rate schedules that expire, thus forcing debates over the "largest tax hike in history". Mr Owens playing with the level for what is rich adds nothing to the conversation.

Its all in how you phrase it.
Obama wants to raise taxes on middle class...after the election.
He didn't say he wanted to make the tax rate permanent. So that means he wants one year of the rate.

Obama and Owens might have some credibility with their economic ideas if they had one iota of business experience between them. Lobbyist for Taiwan doesn't count.

Owens and Doheny are both wrong on their positions - the President is correct for a number of reasons.

Sadly, we have a "left/right" choice when in fact the middle is the place we should seek on this issue -- as I said, Mr. Obama's position is the correct one.

I fully support the $250,000 ceiling and below to protect -- not the very top (2%)...

Dannie supports an increase in taxes. Well theres a surprise. I'll just a betcha if we gave the government more money they would be more responsible with their spending. It always has worked in the past, hasn't it Dannie? Puke.

Can't you all see it now. Here's prezidint Obumba, with some extra tax revenue, just itching to pay down the deficit. My God Dannie, get out of the sun.

Romney kept the jobs in Massachusetts as best he could while fighting two houses of tax and spend democraps. He kept unemployment at a smidgen of what Obama has done for our country. That is all we need to know.

Danny you don't even know what the tax rates are because you don't pay taxes. The tax rate on millionaires is already too high. Add in the self employment tax and the state tax and social security and you are taking more than half from them.

Then when they die you take half again. You already have your greedy little hands allover the earning of other people but you want more.

You have a lot of nerve to tell us Obama is right and you want even more of their money for your freestuff.

And after you are done stealing money from widows and from inheritance it isn't over.

Great men like Romney still give away their entire inheritance to charity. But that is not good enough for you because you don't want charity to get it you want your pensioned up government workers to get it.

Not that it would make any difference to the factually challenged brain dead ‘cons on this blog, but the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office just drove a stake through the heart of the Tea Party and its fanatical anti tax/Obama hoax.

“Americans paid the lowest tax rates in 30 years to the federal government in 2009, in part because of tax cuts President Obama sought to combat the Great Recession, congressional budget analysts said Tuesday…”

“However much Republicans try to perpetuate false claims, the facts speak for themselves: Tax rates have never been lower than under President Obama,” said Rep. Sander M. Levin (Mich.), the senior Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over taxes…” [snip]

Again 12:18, even if you believe your carefully selected pablum, taxes are not the problem. It is a problem with spending. All your flops and flips do nothing to change the fact that spending is what is out of control. Raise some taxes, it will do nothing but further stifle the economy, and government will gladly spend the money.

Call someone factually challenged and then call the CBO nonpartisan?

Is that the same CBO that said Obamacare was revenue neutral and then said oops we were off a by a trillion dollars? And not so much as a single footnote such as telling us Obamacare omits to count medicaid raises that have been spent every year? Even my dishonest dumb accountant would not have left that footnote off.

Did you forget to count all of our skyrocketing healthinsurance costs? Oh wait that is not a tax it is a penalty. How about SS cap removed?

top tax bracket was 28% under Greagan and the first years of Clinton. that was less than 30 years ago.

The tax rates we pay now are not "in part" low because of Obama's wasted stimulus as much as they are because Obama was forced to extend the bush tax rates.

The fact is that the top bracket for federal tax is 35% and that is a lot and is more than a fair share. Add in state tax and self employment tax and the death tax and Danny is getting way way way more than his share.

The Fox News morons don't care if their tax rates haven't dropped. They live vicariously through the rich from their trailer parks.

8:34, thanks for the sanity.

7:49, tell your daughter I'm enjoying spending her future. I'm very happy her birth control pills will be free. But really, I'm coming out ahead. Promise.

The PMSNBC huffpost geniuses don't care about tax rates because they are the half that don't pay taxes plus they live parasitically off from the Fox news audience.

Great post12:18AM. With all the accomplishments President Obama has succeeded in bringing (including the really big one your post is talking about) the Republicans are left standing empty handed. They stuck to their NO mantra as Obama waved and kept going.

For over three years the obstructionist Republican Party of NO opposed President Obama's every proposal that in their mind would look like a "win" for him in the public's eye.

They even screamed and stamped their feet crying NO… over the President's HealthCare mandate, an idea that first came out of the conservative/Republican think tank, The Heritage Foundation.

So it comes as no surprise then when their right wing leaders Limbaugh, Hannity, and the Koch brothers duped an entire segment of the American public and made money doing it. There is truly a sucker born every minute.

They are dullards, and it shows when you post a factual article that says he actually cut taxes and they become discombobulated because it ruins their silly belief.

Facts don't convince today’s Republicans… only unfounded fear…

What a truly pathetic bunch.

Oh ya gots me, 9:30. I'm very rich.

Anonymous said...

Wait a minute! You mean that while the right wing TP nuts were having anti tax rallies protesting that they were taxed enough, tax revenues were really going down?

HUH!!! That's not what Fox Fairy Tales and the GOP leadership have been saying. How can this be?

Anonymous said...

12:29 that is not what he means.
No one has ever brought up total revenues. While half of you pay no income tax it would not make sense to. While you got your IOU's going to SS even though it is already insolvent.
He means tax RATES were going down. (which they were not)
and he means Obama was not trying to raise taxes and did not raise taxes.(Which he was and did.)
And if there is any question of that see the recent SCOTUS ruling.

They started the backlash when Bush borrowed money to loan to TARP. Then your bumbling boy borrowed a trillion to give to government union workers UAW workers right after that and called it stimulus. And since Teabaggers are not stupid, they know borrowed money will be paid back with the taxes. Obama kept promising to raise taxes (which he did.)He promised to take the cap off from SS and he raised the death tax from zero to 35 percent. That's an infinity percent increase!

Funny thing about those dumb Teebaggers is that they are a group of people that can take care of themselves. they don't need Danny and they don't need Obama.

Damn it! I guess this blows my Republican talking point of high taxes out of the water. I’ll have to listen to Limbaugh and Hannity later and see what the new lie du jour is… err, I mean line of BS… um, well I’m sure they will come up with something, they always do.

I wish Republicans would try being honest for a change it’s a lot of work keeping track of all these lies...

Funny thing? Now you’re being just plain goofy. That’s because a lot of them have their monthly Social Security checks and Medicare.

Speaking of "dumb Teabaggers…" who could forget the man from a few years ago at a town-hall meeting in suburban Simpsonville S.C., when he stood up and told Rep. Robert Inglis (R-S.C.) to… “keep your government hands off my Medicare.” Absolutely priceless.

Now THAT is a “funny thing.” Thanks for the reminder.

Who could forget? Owens that's who. That's why he stole half a trillion from medicare so he could give it to able bodied coeds.
