Paterno Statue Should Be Melted Down

Take it down...it shouldn't have been there to begin with.
The bronze statue of former Penn State coach Joe Paterno needs to go in the wake of the child sex scandal that has exposed big time college sports as being the ultimate ends-justifies-the means operation.  The idolotry surrounding million dollar coaches is overdone anyway. (There is a college library named after JoPa  as well.)

The statue at the entrance to Beaver Stadium will only be a chuckle for visiting fans.
Florida State coach Bobby Bowden calls for Paterno statue to be removed due to Sandusky scandal - NYPOST.com

I cant totally believe this is still going on.. I know mistakes were made during this entire affair bit enough is enough. Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim is getting a free ride during the scandal envolving his head assistant Bernie Fine by both his university and the media thats not pursuing coverage on the Fine issue nor the civil suite filed against the university and Boeheim..
I guess it pays to be an arrogant prick like Boeheim and to be able to say what you want no matter what the consequesnces to people involved... Now we find out Fines wife is also involved with Syracuse players no less and that is really being covered up... Fine is a friend and neighbor of Boeheim so I for one dont buy the cover up story of (I didnt know what was going on) nor do I believe he didnt know ineligible players were being used by the basketball team , players who failed certain testing... I didnt ever get informed he said... Bull shit.... How much is the media going to let this creep get on with it.....

The removal of the Paterno statue is an open question in a shameful story. But Bobby Bowden has no standing to make the call. It's a disrespectful, self-serving statement. Disrespectful to Penn State community and to the victims of Jerry Sandusky.

Sporting coaches are just that. Coaches. Not gods. If they screw up they are just like you and me.

I agree totally with MD54inOz. That has never happened before. I am not ready to dismiss a lifetime of honorable living by Mr Paterno. MD boy is right. This is about the victims, not publicity hounds. And Bowden is no example of anything at all.

I don't need to see the statue to get a chuckle out of "beaver" stadium.

Sandusky should have been more interested in the Beaver(not the stadium) and this would have never happened.

Sanduskys balls will be cut off and flown at half mast at all Penns State games this year to satisfy Bowden.. Fines wife will be allowed to date more Syracuse players and Boeheim will recieve his mill plus 300k package and nothing will change.. This university and their followers and the booster clubs are low lifes apparently and give him a skate in this matter...

It is disheartening to see a seemingly "real" hero fall, but if he knew then he knew. If he is guilty, then he is guilty. If he really did know and really is guilty, then it makes no more sense to honor his athletic achievements then it does to honor O.J. Simpson's. Performing ten thousand masses, weddings and funerals does not make it right for a priest to abuse a child. Winning a million football games does not do the trick either. Most people wish that Paterno was innocent, just like most people wish priests did not hurt kids, but wishing does not make it so.

8:43 I understand your hatred for the religion that freed the slaves, and is the backbone of the greatest country on the planet. But for every priest that abused a child there are a million of you libruls that abused a child. Like Polanski who fed Quaaludes to his 13 year old anal rape victim. And then you and your brethren encircle him to protect him from justice. Today he lives a life of luxury in France. He sure made good films.

Or your friends at ACRON that help minors get abortions in conjunction with their pimps. Even after the subject of human trafficking was brought up, they still cooperated.

Your liberally created poverty industrial complex has abused even more children and creates new victims every day.

Now try to stay on topic. This story is not about the church protecting priest or you protecting Polanski, it is a bout a POS cowardly football jerk that chose to do the wrong thing.

Actually, the story seems to be very much about people that use status to put themselves above the law and hurt children. I (8:43) am conservative and spiritual. I hate no religion. To quote from yours, those that injure a child should, "spend eternity with a millstone about their neck." I don't believe there was an exception for film makers, football coaches or so called priests. There were also members of a lot of religions that helped make America great; Quakers, Protestants, Jews and more lately Mormons, Baptists, Hindus, Muslims and Budhists.

What's with the hate SU guy,who wants Boeheim hung even though after at least eight months of investigation by special prosecutors, they can't even find one charge to hang on Fine?No argument things could have done better back in the day,but jesus you would think if there was more than smoke there they would have made an arrest.Maybe you got a bad ticket to the nosebleed seats or something pal,but you better hope they check into your story so thoroughly if you are accused of something.Let's see,it is now the middle of July, allegations made in November, and the only thing the court thinks is appropriate is to dismiss the spurious lawsuit.Yeah, sounds like a conspiracy, you moron.

3:18 I think your topic summery is off. This is about a guy that failed to act...acted like a coward and allowed another to get away with hurting children in order to advance himself.

With Catholic priests the coverup is less self serving. Intrinsic to the religion is confessional and forgiveness. It could be you in the confessional confessing to pedophilia or murder and you would receive the same protection. Not in the name of promoting any individual or promoting the religion but in the name of practicing the religion.

I am not a member of any religion so the millstone isn't for me.

This is just another example of how greed is destroying our nation.

Paterno has a lifetime record of doing honorable things. I am not ready to dismiss it all because of one investigation. I'm just not. It is very possible that Joe reported what he knew and was not involved in a cover up. You do not destroy a man's reputation, earned over a lifetime, due to criminal actions commited by another. Accordingly, I do not believe you condemn the entire Catholic church because of what has taken place in the past. And I do not believe you condemn the entire educational system because of what is going on right now between some teachers and some students.

You don't have to dismiss all the honorable things Paterno did just because of one investigation. Let him keep those honorable things on his resume so that it can help cancel out the times he chose to be a coward over and over and over and over again. At least Pete Rose had morality on his side.

Not only should they melt old 'JoePa' down, but they should mold them into Sandusky's prison bars. Who knows, in a few years maybe Ben Rapelessburger will finally outrun his luck as well and those two criminals can become roomies.
