About seven or eight lions and tigers in a cage attached to a trailer with a trainer who did the usual tricks with the cats perched on platforms and a crowd wondering if they will get to see something exciting like a mauling.
Crowds Look at Big Cats Display
The cage didn't really look lion proof and you couldn't help but wonder about the ruckus if one got loose. The travel trailer housing the animals was at best the size of a mobile home. The handler told the crowd how much longer animals live in captivity compared to the wild, but their life is decidely different.Animal rights activists lodged mild objections with a couple letters to the editor, but no one wants to take away from the attractions and besides, how often to you see this kind of animal in the fur ?
Our own Zoo long ago got rid of lions in favor of watching them on television. Seeing these cats in these surroundings affirmed the wisdom of that decision.

Thank you for blogging about the cruelty of having the tiger and lion "show" at the fair this year! It is absurd that such mistreatment of animals goes on in this country.
I hope this will be the last show at our fair. Very sad to see these animals treated this way in a small cage.
Mayor Graham, you obviously get it. Is it too late to ask you to run for President?
I really appreciate your words, sir. As the mayor, you are in a unique position to use your platform as a public figure for the betterment of all (including animals) within your city. Cheers to you!

Thank you Jeff Graham for speaking about using the tigers and lions for entertainment. It is very cruel for them to be treated this way. You are probably right about the enclosures not being safe. They are made for ease of transport and not really for the safety of the crowd. Thanks for being their voice!
They should be banned from keeping Big cats for 'entertainment' purposes. Not only do these little fly by night show pose a danger to the public, the conditions the animals are forced to endure are heartbreaking. Thank you for speaking out. Maybe you should encourage your local animal rights people to protest a little louder?
Thank you!!!!
This is also why I dont go to the Circus when it comes to town...
Thank you for speaking out for these magnificent creatures. I am so glad to have heard that the North Country stands with animals!

BRAVO Mr. Mayor. These cats are too precious a gift to treat so cruelly.
Well said! Hopefully other people will understand these exhibits are NOT good for animals.
It takes a village to raise a child they say... am glad that you are one voice of many of us who oppose this cruelty. Thank you for speaking up..
Thank you for having the courage to speak the truth. This type of "show" is dangerous for people and cruel for the animals.
I have a cat.
It is so dumb it eats flies for entertainment. If it ever catches a mouse it tortures it before leaving its torso as a gift for me. it sleeps most of the day. Only drink water out of a dripping faucet.
Yup...I am pretty sure cats are too dumb to know they don't belong in a cage in the fair.
Hey 942 why dont we put you in a cage see how you like it.
OMG, the "takes a village" crap is back.
I have always cheered for the lions and tigers, hoping they would actually dine on the guy with then whip! That goes for the bulls in the street with the jerks running in front of them!
