Doheny Has Lots of Donors Too, Although the Profile Differs

While I was looking over Rep. Owens' latest finance reports yesterday, I took a look at the year to date donations for opponent Matt Doheny, at least up till June.
The differences are there although I did see one man had donated to both candidates.
The Doheny donors include lots of people from his occupation. Bankers, finance folks, and lawyers. Most are from the NYC area and are in the $2500 range. Some are surely friends and acquaintances. Others may be GOP givers who were told who to donate to.
There were PACs, including the Eye of the Tiger PAC.  Mostly they were conservative groups aimed at keeping Republicans in charge of the House.
The 'Every Republican is Crucial' PAC or the "Prosperity" PAC are among those listed.
Of course the Doheny report is devoid of big labor money, although Cape Vincent Supervisor Urban Hirschey did drop two grand, while popular Watertown attorney Lee Hector donated $250.  There was a similar donation noted from the Mayor of Watertown, and one was in there from the head of the local hospital as well.
There were the Kruegers from Connecticut who combined for $12,500 in donations. Not Freddy, I hope.

Mayor, let the professionals write about campaign donations. They will get to it eventually.

The TAKERS donate to Owens and are looking to get some for freeS$%t.
The MAKERS donate to Doheny are just looking to keep "their fair share" of what they make.

The big money gang rallies around someone who will support their greedy interests. No news here.

Your correct about big money interests.. The GOP canidate Romney will not disclose his finances for anyone to see.. Wonder why?? Doheny will not give his net wealth only says between three and twnety five million..
Yet these people line up with the congressional GOP wanting to cut programs like WIC, Medicare, Social Security, Food Stamps to save billions.. Why?? These same people support sending our jobs overseas.. Why_??? These same people support the government sending Billions to the foreign countries in need but want to deny our poorest citizens . There is something sick and demented about that..
Buying an election seems to be the way of the country but lets hope that NNY sees through this ploy and votes to keep our Congressman Owens in place... Sure hes not perfect but he has the best interests of us at heart.. Hes not the type of guy thats going to go out and make an ass of himself and cheat on his wife in public and discredit himslef in that manner.. Hes has a marriage that has lasted and family values not marriage signed by contract... I say vote Owens

Wrong 8:58
While it IS greedy for the FreeStuff people to keep trying to take more and more away from the earners...
It is not greedy for the earners to fight to keep a fair share of what they earn.
It's not like they all spend it on yachts. Most of them give away lots and lots. Like Mitt gave away the whole quarter billion when he inherited it from his daddy.

I think doheny should spend a couple of those dollars on a stylist. Man 'o man.

From another post that fits here:

A lot of "outside (actually insider)" money - has always been the root of the issue ...

Mr. Doheny has a ton from outside the district, NYS, and from sources all over the country.

However, there no reason for shock here or all huffiness here. That is unless anyone is prepared to tell me that John McHugh didn't follow the same pattern (except he usually had the Union/Labor backing) from 1993-2008?

FYI: OpenSecrets.org and/or FEC.gov are two great sites to dig deeper.

My input for what it's worth.

In case you're as naive as you sound 10:59 - don't you think the give away is tax deductible? Oh wait, won't release tax info so we'll never know. Enjoy your time in the Cayman Islands with Romney and Doheny's $.

If Doheny wanted to help NNY in any way its been kept a big secret.. Hes had ample time to really do something besides give a camera a phony smile, sign a marital agreement and get married, go to Washinton and party and grope aides.. What good has all of his money and might done this region... Entertain the wealthy on his island.. Give free diners and fundraisers to canidate he controls.. Please tell me what good Matt Dohemny can possibly do for the North Country... He wants to cut government... On the same hand he wants jobs.. Which do you want Matt... He wants to cut the poorest third of the country.. This region is economically strapped.. Its full of public assistance, food stamps wic program reciepants and he wants to cut these programs.. Yah that will help us... Hes agains any new taxes.. Of course he has to protect his rich investment partners... He wants to cut the military Yah that will do a real boost to this econsmy....

Some more factually incorrect talking point nonsense from the right wing echo chamber.

If we take a look at the list of the top states that take federal dollars, 16 of the top twenty states are conservative leaning:

1. New Mexico: $2.03
2. Mississippi: $2.02
3. Alaska: $1.84
4. Louisiana: $1.78
5. West Virginia: $1.76
6. North Dakota: $1.68
7. Alabama: $1.66
8. South Dakota: $1.53
9. Kentucky: $1.51
10. Virginia: $1.51
11. Montana: $1.47
12. Hawaii: $1.44
13. Maine: $1.41
14. Arkansas: $1.41
15. Oklahoma: $1.36
16. South Carolina: $1.35
17. Missouri: $1.32
18. Maryland: $1.30
19. Tennessee: $1.27
20. Idaho: $1.21

As it turns out, the big liberal states that conservatives have come to despise actually take less in federal aid.

Don’t even get me started on the corporate welfare giveaways.

Of course Mitts donations are tax deductible just like everyone's. What is your point? Are you bringing it up because Obama said he wanted to end deductions for charitable donations? Or are you bringing it up because Buffet has carry over deductions from his donations that he doesn't mention when he contrasts his tax rates with his one-percenter secretary's?

Such hypocrisy that the takers get their freestuff from pension funds invested heavily in Exxon/Apple/GE and countless other businesses that pay no taxes on their foreign operations.

yet they want to try to make an issue of a business genius using the same advantages on personal investments? No one that works for a living is buying that crap.

Lets get this straight Einstein. The feds sue Arizona to stop them from stopping poor illegals from feeding off their system. Then the feds dole out money to Arizona based on the census count of these poor illegals. The feds are advertising FreeSh$%t in America to get more people on these programs. And now you want to make an issue of it as if the "state is taking" the money. You are pathetic.

12:04 - LOL. I don't expect there to be any buzz about any new fashion trends emerging as a result of the doheny campaign and the associated photos, that is for sure.

Angry Plattsburgh supporter said...

IF he spent more time in my area of plattsburgh he would get some money from me. But unlike last time around when he fought for all of us in the district he now only fights for his part of the woods. Im unsure who is calling shots on his campaign. You would think Jude would be wanting the press in Plattsburgh talking more about Doheny and you would think Alicia the Volunteer coordinator would want to have a place where we supporters of Doheny now leaning Owens could help her out. But i guess they have no say or just don't care about us in the North Country anymore. So if its not Alicia or Jude i figure it must be either Matt himself saying "beep Plattsburgh" or his head campaign manager i read about Jeff. Im betting its Jeff pulling the shots he probably thinks he knows whats best for the campaign but you can look at his record he worked for a congressman that had to resign in disgrace. Seems like he was a bright pick for Doheny to pick to lead his campaign. When Doheny loses due to a failed campaign staff i will only say one thing. I told you so"

Annoyed in Glenn Falls to said...

To Angry Person, I'm sure you have noticed the lack of a campaign office too. You are right you guys are not going to get what you go last time. I do not think its the press sec or the Volunteer coordinators fault, if it was up to Jude or Alicia I'm sure Doheny would have a office and a full team of workers up there. After all thats Alicia's job i think, as the website states "volunteer coordinator' you would think he goal would be to get as many supporters as she can to help. That goes the same for Jude his job is to get as much press as he can for Doheny. Im sure he would love to pump up the press for a big office opening. As for Jeff who knows maybe he thinks he is working for the Owens campaign. But i should add we do have a office down here in G'Falls

Common Sense said...

6:37-- There is not point for the Campaign to campaign in Plattsburgh now the damage is already done. If he was going to campaign he would of done it sooner when he had support. He lost the Plattsburgh area once and he will do it again but most likely a bigger margin, if supporters like you are starting to turn away that means there are many more like you in the district. Im still voting Doheny but i fear his campaign is on the wrong track. Oh and I donated a small amount to the campaign. Not paying 250 to see the speaker of the house. We are poor in the North Country. Oh and on a side note the Volunteer person would have a spot if they kept that office in Downtown Platts but i think its a bakery now. Maybe they can make some Donuts for Doheny town hall meetings.

5:36, the photo ops for the Doheny campaign may not make the cover of vogue, but maybe Cuomo can visit the district and we can get a glance at Sandra Lee...I don't care much for his politics but she sure is easy on the eyes! Meee-oowww!!

If the campaign volunteer coordinator does not have a say on when and where a office will be then what does she/he do. One of the Primary reasons for a office is to have a meeting ground for volunteers. So i would think this Alicia person would have a major say on when and where the office would open. So maybe its not Jeff as you all claim maybe its Alicia. What shocks me is that i looked her up and i believe she lives very close to Plattsburgh. But from what i can tell from reading the past 3 comments is that this campaign is not talking with each other. Plus on top of paying rent you have to employee some people to keep the doors open at such a office, which cost money. Perhaps the campaign can't find anyone to work for them or their finances are in worse shape than they make us believe.

There is still time to win over Plattsburgh and disgruntled supporters but it looks like to me that some real damage has been done. Idk if it's judes, Alicias, or jeffs fault for this office not being opened but hopefully it gets rectifyed before its to late.

9:30- last year doheny "loaned" himself over $2 million for his campaign and he has said he will contribute whatever it takes again this time to get the job done. So he should have plenty of cash to open multiple offices and staff them appropriately. The campaign seems to spend a lot of time, thought and money on hitting every parade in town. Perhaps they should redirect their focus.

Little less talk and more action said...

Wow, this is becoming a big talking point. Umm lets see where to begin.

1) Campaign office not in Plattsburgh this time around- The campaign said there will be a office in Plattsburgh so therefor a office will most likely arrive at some point. So we can all cool our collective Jets.

2) Jude is to blame?- Jude's job is to deal with the press on all issues big or small. Not to deal with where a campaign office is or is not located.

3) Its Alicia's fault- Her primary job is to run the operations of the volunteers. Im sure she would love a campaign office but its not her call. She works with what she has to work with. Office or no office she will still seek out and use any volunteers that are willing to help with the campaign.

4) Its Matts fault- As a candidate his number one job it to meet as many people as possible. So he is always traveling not sitting in a campaign office.

5) Its Jeffs Fault- I feel this is most accurate as the Campaign manager the buck stops with him. He makes the hard choices on who to hire, where to place the offices, what the candidate should be doing from day to day. So if you have a issue with Jeff go visit him at the head campaign office in watertown or call the office I'm sure he will be there.

In conclusion stop crying and start acting. Contact Alicia and say "hey i want to help. How can i help" Contact Jeff and say " Hey we want you in Plattsburgh" The contact information for everyone in the campaign is on the campaign website.

Anonymous said...

I think this falls under the Campaign heads fault. The head must not feel Plattsburgh or the general area is valuable enough. Im pretty sure Alicia from what i know about her has been fighting for an office in the area to no avail. The person that has the power to grant it would have to be the campaign head. Maybe someone should ask him why there is no office in Plattsburgh?

The truth said...

It's obvious that the decision to not have a Plattsburgh Office has nothing to with Alicia (who lives in the Plattsburgh area) and Jude. When they ran the campaign, things appeared to be pretty tight and in order. Since this new guy Jeff came on, it seems as though he "thinks" he knows the district and what is and isn't important. From what I've heard, Alicia has been trying to get a Plattsburgh office since last fall and I was told it would probably be located where the old Cantwell law firm was. But Alicia and Jude are not calling the shots anymore so who knows when Jeff will decide to open an office in Plattsburgh, if at all.

JEFF FREELAND was also the Deputy Campaign Manager for Jane Corwin for Congress campaign and he lost that one. Maybe Jeff needs to be fired for Doheny can win this.

Anonymous said...

Still time we lost there is no more time John david

Alicia has been with the campaign for years. Are you really going to tell me she has no power? if so then wow what a way to move up in a campaign.

Anonymous said...

What is all this talk about Plattsburgh? Is this Middle Class Mike having a conversation with himself? If you Owens operatives want to get some legs for this non issue story you need to take it somewhere else with an even dumber audience.

If there is any real republican supporters upset about the lack of an office in Plattsburgh I would be surprised. But if there are, they should take inspiration from Obama and become community organizers. Hold meetings in the homes allies such as Bill Ayers. There is no reason to have an expensive office to have the meetings at. That is what a liberal spendocrat would do, not what a good fiscal conservative would do.

922- maybe the mayor can recruit the woman in his self proclaimed eye candy photo on his site to work on the Doheny campaign. That will surely give you something to look at!

7:27am:

The problem is not with Alicia. She is terrific! The fact that there is no plattsburgh office yet is not her fault nor has nothing to do with whether she has pull or not. She has been telling both her candidate and her new campaign manager for months now about how important a plattsburgh office is. If they choose not to open one there, it is because they opted to do what they wanted rather than listen to her expertise. Let's call a spade a spade and blame the appropriate people.

you not going to get a dam office so shut up and move on. why do you people even care about a office. You planning on living in there for free. If i was Jeff i would hold my ground and not give you a office just because i can ignore you all and still win.

Anonymous said...

4:14- you are clearly a Doheny supporter but yet not a supporter of free speech (as evidenced by your eloquent request that the posters "shut up"). Doheny is a fan of small government and personal freedom. I am not so sure he would he happy to have you on his side if that is how you think...just saying.

Anonymous said...

4:35--Oh give me a break these people are bashing his staff. Poor Jeff is just trying to do his job as the new head of the campaign. As you read earlier before Matt had to have 2 people in charge Alicia and Jude now he has one. Shows just how well they were doing if Doheny had to hire someone to do a better job.... Just saying

Anonymous said...

4:44--If you did any research or really know the team as you proclaim to, you would know that Alicia and Jude's titles were always DEPUTY CAMPAIGN MANAGERS, which inferred that at some point there would be a CAMPAIGN MANAGER! Alicia and Jude were the ONLY two on the team and for almost a year, they ran it flawlessly. Get your facts straight. With a campaign manager and now other team members on staff, they can each fully do their own jobs instead of the jobs of everyone.

4:35- Are you kidding me Jeff in order for Jeff to a campaign he would have to be running against half dead dodo birds and they are already dumb, dead and extinct.

The American said...

Mayor why don't you do us a favor and just go down to his office and demand a reason for no office in a city miles away. Your the mayor you can use your mayor kick and break down the front door and walk right up to jeff and say"Hey what is going on here?"

Anonymous said...

DOHENY hired more people because the campaign got bigger not because they were doing a bad job. Now maybe he hired wrong person but all campaigns need heads not just bodies

Anonymous said...

4:35- did you mean in order for Jeff to win a campaign. You sort of missed the word win.

Anonymous said...

5:09- Whats your point. You admit Jude and Alicia ran it great. So no reason to mess with a system that is working great. Then they go get a guy from what i understand from my own back checking of the post above. You will learn he lost when he was running the Corwin campaign in past and you will find that when he worked for a representative that congressman resigned in disgrace.

Anonymous said...

4:44- i couldn't really understand your pount from your post, but the bottom line is Matt didn't "have to have" anything (perhaps that was indeed your point, it was unclear). Anyway, who Matt employs on his campaign staff is up to one person. Matt. And at the end of the day he is the one who has to answer for their decisions. Any of them. They work for him. Period.

12:08- I agree with you on the nonsense about the Plattsburgh office, but I think the comments about the stylist are kind of true. Not so much for doheny himself, but for the rest of them. Maybe they are trying to seem like "regular people" but regular people don't need to look like they haven't taken a shower for a week or dress like their are twice their age. It's fun when people in the spotlight are fashion trendsetters (think Kate Middleton). I think a stylist is a really good idea.
