I received many comments and e-mails from animal lovers and activists over my skeptical view of the big cat show at the County Fair.
While many people watched the lions and tigers crowd into the fenced in show ring, there are those who see these shows as cruel.
It's an inconvenient truth to speak your mind on such shows, as you are immediately guilty of berating an institution and our agrarian past. However I appreciate the kind comments from those also uncomfortable with this use of wild animals.

These types of shows will die when the market for them disappears. Pretending they are wrong and stating that our ancestors were bad people for supporting these things won't cut it. Vote with your feet. Don't try to redefine morality. Imagine when the day comes where future generations pass judgment on us for carving up babies because they aren't male, or they inconvenience us? All you smug animal rights people should know that day is coming too. Future generations will be talking about you the same way you are talking about them.
Too bad people flock to see them, but then again if they see first hand how there kept, Used to be people thought "The Dancing Bears" were fun to watch until we found out how they were taught how to "Dance"(They made them stand on hot coals)
10:55, are you sure they didn't shoot them in the feet day after day? Or attach electrical cords to their feet so we could shock them into dancing? How bouts we played rap music. No one can resist dancing with rap music. Quit being an idiot. This is why the animal rights people lose arguments. They go stupid if you give them the chance.
Is that how they taught Obama how to dance, hot coals? He's the best dancer I've ever seen.
Thank You Mayor Graham, I completely agree with you, and its one thing for a citizen to stand up and take a stand when they feel passionate, but a much different thing when someone of political power and standing does the same. I am truly proud of you for standing up and stating your opinion about this, even though it may not necessarily be the most popular opinion. This has been a very personal ordeal for me, and its wonderful to know you don't enjoy seeing this kind of thing in our town either. Thank you again, sincerely.
You were spot on regarding the big cat exploitation which occurred at your and many other county fairs, malls and roadsides. When all people quit paying to see the mistreatment of animals these "entertainers" will have to resort to other means of income. Until laws to protect big cats are enacted and enforced, let's all do our part by boycotting all such animal shows and the merchants that promote them.
Mayor Graham, thank you for speaking up.
