Bath Salts Summit ? Sure, Why Not ?

Everybody is jumping on the "bath salts" issue, although a couple of months ago the same people were talking about "spice".  Senator Ritchie holds a town hall meeting on the issue on Monday.
I like to listen to people on the front lines who aren't in a special interest group, so I was pleased to hear from 'Gun Nut" on the show today. He told me in his job the new designer drugs are rampant and the cure may not be more laws and more doors kicked down.
Gun Nut tells me the demand for these products comes from people who have nothing they care about. No careers, no ambition, no hobbies, no spritual framework, no nothing.  The threats to 'cuff and stuff' don't seem to hit home, he says, just like the guy in the paper today with his sixth DWI....
People with no initiative...no moral underpinnings..no sense of shame are ripe for the latest bout of escapism.
Instead, we will get a new law named after someone who had their face gnawed off by someone on bath salts.
      And so it goes.

Gun Nut ain't on the front lines.
He's more like Frank Burns on MASH.
They bring the wounded to him after they been hit real bad and he pretends he can patch 'em up.

If nothing matters to these people, threats of losing what they have ring hollow. Why do we do the right thing? We do it because we have responsibilities to our families, our children, our God, our neighbors, our reputation. These people have none of this. If it isn't bath salts, it will be the next idiotic thing to come down the pipe. Convince people that life does matter. Good luck. That is the long term answer.

"Abandon hope all ye that enter here?"

I don't think so. Kudos to Senator Ritchie for getting in front of the issue with education to help parents and potential abusers.

We can pay for them to be in prison or we can pay for them to receive lifetime medical care. I'd rather root for Gunnut to save us some money. Or, we can be a critic. What we've been doing for the past thirty years hasn't worked.

OR! Slap a don't sell this crap no more to our public sticker on the doors of the shops selling the crap! Don't pass any laws. Just make a city sticker that states this place is selling death, enter at your own risk. Make the shops involved stick it to the front doors. Somtimes shame works. Maybe the press get's off it's fat butt and catchs a few people on camera for the 6pm news? Ask some questions to kids coming out. Maybe throw a camera in the owners of the shops faces and ask them why they seel stuff to kids that they know are dangerous?

Sorry, but does anyone recognize this: "Let he who is without Sin cast the first stone". I see some very tough comments towards those who are suffering or addicted. I wonder how perfect you would actually be and how condemning your comments would be if the skeletons in your closets were revealed to all. Have some mercy on those who are not able to help themselves. Without compassion, a person should not be in a service oriented position. I certainly hope you (who made the ignorant comments) are not!
