WDT: No Debate

No debate...as I originally predicted...There is no upside for the front runner and little downside by being unavailable...
Those poor young Republicans learned a lesson in electoral politics.
There should have been one held...I have participated in them over the years, even though some times I would have preferred not to.
It was a debate I forced in 1991 that launched me to an upset win over two favored candidates.

What a disappointment. Whatever commitments Doheny has made on "the other side of the district", he must have just made them, as a venue for the debate was made available just 10 hours after the self-imposed deadline by the Young Republicans. I would think Doheny could unwind those commitments if he wanted to, in the interest of good, informed politics, but I actually think there is something more deliberate going on here...

I am betting that in fact what happened in the Republican party asked the Young Republicans to step in and take over organizing the debate, and actually asked them to deliberately fail. As the mayor said, there is no upside for Doheny here and he is the party pick, so why would they put him in any sort of a position that could ultimately weaken his campaign against Owens, even ever so slightly. Under the scenario that just unfolded surrounding the debate, Doheny doesn't have to debate and also doesn't have to take the heat for not debating. The Young Republicans are "technically" to blame now for no debate. Well played Doheny. Well played Republican Party!

3:59 Makes sense to blame those that try. Let's blame the small business owners that try to make jobs when they fail. Blame the scientists that fail in curing cancer. Blame the teachers when their students fail. This world belongs to those that don't try and don't stick their neck out their. In the end we can say those young 40 year olds are just to naive and maybe when they turn 90 they will have the wisdom to sit back and do nothing. I'm not buying it 3:59.

The "Young Republicans" have some explaining to do. They have a venue and the arrangements are/were made. Why are you lying?

In fact, they have yet to cancel those arrangements with the facility the debate is to be held in. Something is really fishy about this. Seems more an act of cowardice and deception.

Now the question is: why do the republicans or Doheney suddenly not want the debate? Is it because the RINO's in the local party are afraid of the true conservative? Is it because Doheney is afraid to face a conservative opponent?

At any rate, Doheney is better off not facing Greene. She'd cut him to ribbons. (and the local party establishment in the process)

Run Matt Run!

Are you kidding me?? Dohney ACCEPTED a debate with her back on Tuesday which GREENE REFUSED because the Town of Fine wasn't good enough for her! Get your heads out of the clouds, folks. Matt would destroy Kellie in a debate and Matt is without a doubt, going to be the Republican candidate in the November election.

Whats the difference between a RINO and a "true conservative"? Funny that so many RINO's seem to pay their bills and a "true conservative" is thousands in debt, unemployed, and probably living off what saps give her in campaign contributions. Heard her on the radio today. Talk about over her head. She made Kathie Lee Gifford sound like Jeanne Kirkpatrick. Nothing but a giggling, ignorant birther. Go back to AZ where you belong. The sad part is all these counties having to pay thousands of dollars for a primary election for this idiot. Some fiscal conservative.

5:50 - you missed the point. I am not blaming the young republicans for trying, I am just suspicious that the republican party asked them to take over so then they could be the scapegoat when it "conveniently" didn't come together. In my eyes, the young republicans did nothing wrong at all, I am just betting they agreed to be the scapegoat so Doheny wasn't criticized directly for not debating. And yes, 10:56, I don't doubt that Doheny would have faired very well in the debate, but that also isn't the point. There are few who think he won't win the primary so why risk anything by debating? As the mayor pointed out, there was nothing but downside for him. A seasoned campaign manager would never have accepted the offer to debate when faced with a slam dunk primary. So between offering to debate in the middle of no where and the young republicans failing to find a more appropriate venue, the Doheny campaign escapes the backlash they would have faced if they tried to back out. It was all choreographed, that's all. Quite frankly, it was very smart on the part if the republican party. Better for doheny to debate when it matters and there is upside, against Owens.

Not at all 10:56AM. Matt's running like a scared cat.

Lets see, have a debate in the middle of nowhere so maybe 10 people and no media show up. That way when your butt is handed to you, hopefully no one will notice.

Nice try but it ain't washing. The young republicans are now caught up in the lie too. Matt's scared and he ran. Like I said, she'd cut him to pieces and he knows it.

Pull your head out of the clouds. I guess denial isn't only for democrats?

They should have had the debate in the theater in the masonic temple. It certainly wasn't already booked and it would finally give that beautiful building a purpose. If only for an hour or two. Oh well...

I don't buy into the idea that a "remote location" is a good reason to turn down the event for Greene. I guarantee you that at least one media guy would have covered it and I guarantee you it would be linked to by NJ and viewed by all interested voters.
