A proposed toll hike gets protests from lawmakers who years ago created political cover by setting up the non-elected Authority to run the highway.
Get rid of this agency and the tolls. You can drive from Watertown to Binghamton on a four lane, well maintained superhighway for free, but the same trip from Rochester to Albany costs.
Of course, the electeds would have to cover the costs through taxes and wouldn't have a straw man agency to blame. Who wants to see that happen ?

That crappy blind governor let them close the rest stop at Cicero and it has been closed for two years now.
Patty should do something about that. Either lower our share of gas taxes or give us a bathroom like every other stretch of interstate has.
The Thruway Authority is "bonded" until the next century, I dont think you can do away with them, just like DANC, both employ folks, DANC should have been dismantled years ago along with the Tug Hill Commission, but then where would all the political appointees work, Oh I forgot Hudson/Black River regulating district.
what's wrong with user fees (if they are used for their stated purpose? If I never use the Thruway, why should I be taxed for it? School taxes are enough of an insult.
Noteworthy is the story that His Majesty Andrew I (I Am the Gov't!) mentioned raising the toll fees on "big trucks".
The Ruling Class always bets on the average person not being smart enough to understand that all increases are ultimately passed on to the consumer.
This Thruway toll increase will be paid for by the things you buy at the grocery store. But the dumbass politicians will have you believe only truckers will pay. They lie, again. These tolls are good for you. Enjoy. And remember, most all of you don't travel that much anymore anyway. Only the teachers have time and money for travel, and they usually fly. So this won't effect the children. I'm so relieved.
It would be nice if they would stop the tolls as promised years ago, when the Thruway was paid for. But as long as they keep increasing the entitlement programs, they will need to keep raising the taxes. I couldn't believe what I heard on the radio the other day. They were telling people that if they were on welfare they would qualify for a free cell phone with so many minutes a month. Things have gotten out of control!!
Those free phones have been around awhile now, 8:59. Often provided to drug dealers, they are justified as a safety concern. Hey, you voted for these people. And you will do so again.
