Not only was there a lot hanky panky during the Pataki years to bring NASCAR racing to formerly rock ribbed Republican Lewis County, but the owners of the failed race track in New Bremen now say they want more tax breaks so they can reopen the Adirondack Speedway.
The owners say the $95,000 annual tax bill is the difference because success and failure in their business model. If so, they should find another line of business...It's just something for nothing.

I hate rich people as much as you do mayor but 95k per year for taxes is a lot of money. I know we need the money to pay for a state trooper to retire at age 42 after 20 years of writing seat belt tickets or checking hall passes in General Brown high school.
But still, the fact that you can be so cavalier about such a high sum of money as a "tax" is frightening. does that make you a "moderate"?
At this point NASCAR will never go back. They have way to many spots to hit in the regular season now. That ship has sailed.
Almost as bad as the Tax Breaks given to the Otis Tech. Folks no wonder shes having a fundraiser for Matt, she wants to continue the FREE Stuff.
Unless everyone is paying 95,000 dollars for property taxes, it is a bit disingenuous to call it welfare when a business asks not to be paying that ungodly amount. I doubt that the NASCAR track will put any more burden on the school system like the Fort Drum Apartments will do. They will probably bring in plenty of new sales tax revenue that otherwise would not come in.
Our taxes are so high, one cannot be expected to open a business without a tax break. Dannie gets a tax break just for living next to a golf course. And he creates no jobs at all.
Youre right 726, But why dont we do away with all the exemptions?
Look, I'll be the first to admit Paul causes a lot of his own problems. But anyone who knows anything about the situation, knows that he is getting Royaly Reamed on the taxes for the track. And yes just about everybody in the Town of New Bremen is getting reamed on their taxes right now, but Paul got it doubly so.
I heard that the amount he threw out wasn't all taxs in that year. It was taxs from another year (not paided) and fines he owed for the bathrooms.
It comes down to the fact that if you can't afford it, you can't afford it.
8:01 I'm all for it. Flat tax, no exemptions. Much less corruption. Its an idea that came from the Republicans. The Dems are too interested in trying to get you to hate coporations, when a flat tax would do the most to reign them in. In other words, the Donkeys are lying, again.
