One thing about Patty Ritchie campaigns. They are energetic and well staffed. Tonight at the Dairy Parade, I walked with the Senator and wore one of her "lookin' out for us" T-shirts.
The people are true believers and would walk over hot coals for their candidate. Little children were chanting "Vote for Patty Ritchie" the entire route. They will repeat it twice tomorrow in Canton and Brownville....
The adulation is friendly...the unintiated might say cult-like.
According to the Senator, her team worked too hard to get there two years ago to take any chances.
Her Democratic opponent I am sure is a decent candidate, but no one...I mean no one...will out hustle Patty Ritchie on the trail.
When I asked her if she was going for 80%, she didn't deny it....

I like her a lot. But I firmly disagree with her decisions to protect the same 'ol like Tug Hill Commission and college presidents every 8 miles. Somehow, someday, we have to have leadership that isn't afraid to say enough is enough on NYS. She isn't there yet. I hope she gets there.
She knows she is going to win and yet she keep working hard to make her chances even better. That is the kind of attitude and work ethic we need in Albany.
Sooner or later we have to elect pols who don't want to be reelected. If the entire program calls for a competition for who can give out the most FreeStuff, we are dead. Maybe not us, but certainly our kids. The age of the DannieType has to end. This can't be continued.
It doesn't matter if she is a RINO. We cannot afford to have the senate taken over by totalitarian socialists again so we HAVE to vote for her. Now get on board!
If you want to fill the seat with a genuine fiscal/government conservative, then start looking and campaigning at the beginning of the term. Don't try to throw a wrench in things now. It is too late in the game to have it come out better than if she wins.
It never ceases to amaze me the way people in Jefferson County wholeheartedly support spending hundreds and hundreds of millions of tax dollars for any possible project (needed or unneeded) at Fort Drum, but any penny spent anywhere else is a terrible waste of funds. Watertown would not exist without big government grants and government subsidized loans to the private sector for housing and most everything else.
The Tug Hill Commission helps a lot of very small local governments run by part-time officials work together to reduce costs.
Jefferson County's local governments and citizeny has reaped huge benefits from the expertise provided by the Development Authority of the North Country. DANC runs water plants, sewage plants and a host of other programs for Jefferson County's small towns.
Yet you sneer at the Tug Hill Commission assisting others.
It's always amazing listening to people who are clueless about SUNY Canton and SUNY Potsdam. SUNY Potsdam is a traditional liberal arts college that also offers teacher training and one of the nation's top musical programs at the Crane School of Music.
SUNY Canton offers career oriented programs ranging from construction trades and engineering to law enforcement, vet tech and business.
The two schools cater to two very distinct populations and have been very successful in their niches for over a 100 years. Since SUNY Canton expanded to four year degree programs it's enrollment has exploded, bringing thousands of new students to Canton and hundreds of new jobs.
Just because a Democratic political operative in Albany decides to take away educational opportunities in the North Country so they can shift the money to New York City's colleges does not make it a good idea or an example of what Conservatives should support.
Democratic administrations in Albany always see cuts to any services provided upstate as a brilliant public policy. It's sad that some of you are so gullible as to fall for these efforts.
No one believes Tug Hill commission helps anyone. Their job is to take money from the tax payers and help put restrictions on property owners.
DANC's job is to take money from the tax payers and employee politically connected people.
