We so want to cling to our piety, but can't stand it when it interferes with our current lifestyle.
Alcohol sales had always been banned till noon on Sundays in deference to Church people, until the law was recently loosened to allow stores to sell beer before noon for the benefit of thirsty boaters, campers and golfers....Now lawmakers want to allow sports stadiums to sell the Devil's Brew starting at 11AM Sunday, in order to short circuit the ubiquitous "tail gate" parties ourside stadiums.
For years, liquor stores were closed on Sundays, and now that's been lifted.
Just what are we holding on to by keeping Sunday blue laws on alcohol, when nobody cares anyway ?
And a side note to the temperate in the world. While I don't participate, I think the allure of tailgate parties is not abated by being able to buy overpriced beer in the stadium....Just my observation, for what its worth.

Maybe the other religions that hold Saturday as the day of rest should seek reparations.
You said people don't care anymore?? I CARE!!!!!! Do you know anyone killed by a drunk driver? I DO!!!! Alcohol is a blight to our society, and these things being allowed shows how far down our culture and society has gone.
I love to tailgate and no matter how early the stadium opens I will stay and enjoy what is often the best part the whole experience.
Now if they have a up close and personal time with the players or cheerleaders I may think that. But to $7-$11 a beer no way.
It doesn't hurt any of us to delay getting drunk until after noon on Sundays. And if you simply can't resist pissing on your shoes, get your beer the day before and start getting high as the sun comes up. If it really matters that much to you to start drinking an hour earlier, your life is screwed up already.
Not to deny you your way of making a living, Jeff, and other than drunk driving, I have no problem with anyone drinking as much as they please.
Personally, however, I have never been able to grasp the concept or the attraction of spending large sums of one's hard earned money transforming oneself into either a silly idiot who has to ask someone else the next day if he had a good time or not, or a quarrelsome obnoxious looking-for-trouble a$$hole that nobody wants to be around.
And as has already stated, the blue laws are a waste of time as anyone who really feels the need to get hammered before noon on Sunday has ample opportunity to buy his suds the day before.
To each his own.
Let's just make everything that is potentially "harmful" or "bad" for us illegal. Take away personal freedom and personal choice and the right to make bad decisions. Oh wait.....isn't that communism or life in North Korea. People, it's the United States. We are free to make choices and that includes bad choices about our own lives and health. I do not need a law to tell me to wear my seatbelt or not drink or smoke. If I choose to do those things it is no one elses business. Be very careful about how many of your freedoms you give up and how many stupid laws end-up on the books. You may regret it.
