Various Items

It was a busy day for me, but one highlight was a nice call I got from the owner of the Privateers Hockey Team to tell me she is pleased witht he progress of talks on relocating to the Fairgrounds Arena.
While contract talks still have to occur, I am optimistic.
Earlier this week, I also issued a statement on the city manager recruitment, to the effect I would have no comment on the Council designee until CM Krol hammers out an employment agreement.
While I would like everything to happen instantly, some things take a little time and as such, I have no comment on the matter until it is resolved.
A bit of good news....a thoroughly dilapidated building on Factory Street is in the process of coming down, and that's a nice prelude to next year's reconstruction of the street.
Hate to sound old, but I remember trains going down the middle of the street.

The tracks were there then when you were young, but I doubt you ever saw a train. The last Beeliner left in 1962.

I was born in '66 and I remember seeing trains going down the middle of the street as we waited for them to get out of the way somewhere over in that area.

They had freight trains moving on Factory St later than that. But as much as I hate to admit it, if the last train was '62, I would still have remembered it. I was 8.

What happen to informing the public, if 4 made it to the finals they should have been announced. It is called transparency in government Jeff!

And the purpose of identifying those who didn't make it is what ?

Well Jeff, no one is suggesting, at least I'm not, that you release a summary of the process. But you have to admit, even school districts, those bastions of openness and honesty, report who their finalists are for Superintendent jobs. And not saying anything until the contract is done stinks too. WE have all griped about teacher contracts that we aren't allowed to know anything about until the deal is done. You aren't running the city like a school now are ya?

it is customary to realease the names of the 4 finalist so the public may have some say. It is their city manager. In many cases if someone has made it this far in the process they are asked to inform their current employers out of courtesy and then names are released. Their entire career will be under public scrutiny at city hall, it should start when they become a finalist. Sorry Jeff but you errored here.

The public has a say through their elected officials. Trotting people out like a new pony serves no purpose.
That was done nine years ago at the now famous "soire" at WSB

How is the shadow government suppose3d to call the shots if you don't even let them see what they are shooting at?

I hope we hired a female again!
We like to hire women in the city of Watertown! The only majority that is a minority. We are forward thinking.

1:30 I'm with ya on some of this. This woman thing is getting a bit absurd. But it is today's fashionable way of thinking. I'm sure she will wear that womanly power business suit, in black, that they seem to wear all the time. As far as the shadow government is concerned, you can bet the lady hired was approved of beforehand. Its only the citizens who were left out of the loop.
