Blasphemy is not a word that lends itself to gradations between black and white...but attitudes...that's something different.
The latest polling shows 53% of Americans favor same sex marriage being allowed, compared to 36% six years ago.
That's why its becoming safer to advocate for it in public, although most pols still choose the safer course of sticking with tradition.

Marriage to your pet dog will be acceptable in a few years. Bigamy already is. It just needs to be run through the courts. That's all fine with me. We're getting smarter and more progressive all the time, while our kids rot. Yippie. What time does the Mall close? Remember what this was all about. It wasn't about equal rights, it was about the devaluation of marriage. Again, I say Yippie.
It baffles me why the government has to be involved in licensing marriage.
Lets see now : H'mm ---JUST because a majority, albeit a slim one in a poll that may or may not be either statistically valid nor free of bias favors anything , DOES that make it right ??. Smells like most polls full of "forced" Either/or choices offering few if any alternative choices .
Throughout history any number of misdirected causes some with dire consequences (Think dictatorships and other so called social ideologies designed for self aggrandisement ) came to be with that kind of reasoning.
A dog is not capable of entering into a legal contract. The issue is equal HUMAN rights. Polls shouldn't matter only the constitutionally protected rights of privacy and freedom to enter a legal contract. Interesting how the bigots and homophobes post anonymously .... Thom Peterson (legally married in NYS)
If this is REALY about Human rights , Put it up for a referendum and lets see what the people really think, rather than letting pandering politicians play fast and loose with it !
The ultimate poll is the referendum and to date, same sex marriage has been defeated in all of them including the one in the state of libtards...AKA California.
Oh Thom, you're such an intelligent guy. I'm sure you'll get an atta boy from the fashionable people of the world. And my my am I surprised that you throw homophobe insults at people who disagree with you. You be such a fashionable guy.
And why can't dogs enter into a contract. Animal rights are important too. If you had said twenty five years ago Jane can marry Jane, people would have laughed. I will predict marriage to a dog will be possible in the enlightened world to come. And brave boys like you will be championing it. And as far as polygamy. Based on recent changes, there is no way the courts can disallow it. It has to be deemed legal, or in your circles, cool. How long did it take you to evolve to your current position? Bet we won't get an honest answer on that one.
Right 5:03. You should have suggested that referendum idea regarding either interacial marriage or combined water fountain use in Selma Alabama circa 1963 and see if justice would have been done. And school segegation? I'm sure that would have been voted down as well. If only it went to a referendum!!! If the sanctity of marriage can survive Rush's three or four wives, I think it will survive this.
Brilliant 10:16! No one has ever thought of that argument before. You should tell someone about your stroke of original thought and then someone will take it before the supreme court and win over everyone once they see your brilliant argument.
Traditional marriage is destroyed. That was the goal. Great. The fact that people have failed marriages certainly justifies condoning same sex marriage. Huh?
It is good that all the homophobics and/or racists have the Mayors blog to read and comment on every day. It helps keeps them off the streets where the normal people live and work and attempt to advance society.
"..Traditional marriage is destroyed......" WARNING!!! DRAMA QUEEN ALERT!! DRAMA QUEEN ALERT!!
Interracial marriage was illegal in many states until in 1967 when the USSC said it was unconstitutional (Loving v. VA) in their 9-0 decision.
Think about that the next time you meet Justice Clarence Thomas and his wife, Ginny.
It's a rights issue, period. Stuff the bias otherwise.
At least Dannie got rid of the pandering USMC logo. I like the photo better. His comment is typically irrelevant though.
Isn't it funny that all the posters who belittle being smart are all against same sex marriage? Hmmm. I suspect they would have been the same people against the civil rights movement in the 1960's.
Notice how if you don't agree with this most recent social change, the one their prezidint only "evolved" to hours ago, you're labeled a racist and a homophobe. And "normal people" agree with them. Very cute. Thom and others like you, you are the highest form of BS and political correctness. We are proud of how you can take such courageous positions.
When has anyone here ever belittled "being smart"? We have on occasion called out pseudo intellectualism as the farce fake substitute phoney pretend intellectualism that it is. But we have never belittled being smart.
Referendum : Now !
If WE the people have no vote in the matter there is NO Liberty. Its strictly the old " Might makes Right " argument used by miscreants to advance their agenda while casting asunder the vote of the majority .
Put it to the test or "suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous indignation " for trampling upon the rights of others by usurping our vote
