It will be interesting to see response to City Council's naming of a City Manager. People at the press conference today seemed positively impressed by Sharon Addison, but as one would expect there are those who are on line with criticism.
Some weighed in here...some on Newzjunky's Facebook page.
Some common themes are too much money and she's not local.
I am always inclined to congratulate someone and wish them well in this situation.
But as one person told me some time ago, Watertown can be the "city with no pity."
I don't think so, and I hope everyone gives our new manager their best wishes.

If she does a good job it's money well spent. If not - the critics are right. My bet is on her.
She had nothing to do with the decisions leading up to her hiring. Give her a chance and welcome her. I just hope she has the backbone to get something out of Gene Hayes. Mary didn't.
Folks are kind of sad sacks with their negative comments on FB. I'm thinking the city of Watertown, is very fortunate to have obtained her services. She has credentials with a wow factor! NSA!
Good job city council!
Look at the smile on her face when she poses with her parents. That's the sign of a good lady. Congratulations to her and her family.
I wish her the best. However, after seeing how the previous city managers of Watertown and Ogdensburg were treated after years of dedicated service, I feel sorry for anyone who is willing to take on these jobs.
As time goes on, her enimies will accumulate because she will be doing her job, and making the tough decisions. The real problems come at election time when a elected officials will not "have her back", or use her as a scapegoat to win another term.
Yeah she has to hit the ground running or else the complainers will look like they had a point.
My only concern is I haven't heard if she has any private sector experience. A lifetime working for the government usually gets you the Danny types. Bureaucratic Peter principle types with no real skills. I hope she has never been a community organizer.
The mayor is always talking about consolidation of governments. And he laments he doesn't have the power to annex property into the city. Well here is an idea for her to implement that solves the problem and in essence annexes the whole town:
Dissolve the city.
Then the whole town of Watertown becomes the city by default. You get the malls and the restaurants and the shopping and all those other commercial tax revenue streams. You just have to wait for an election cycle or two to get the power back in the hands of the current players. Unless the larger voting block in the city turns on the elected and chooses the current town politicians over their own.
I do not believe the negativity is centered, on who got hired, but more so towards this city council, who tend to always pat themselves on the back, amd point the finger at others, as having a problem. Personally, I really do not trust 2 of them. But, that is me speaking, from what I see, hear, and read.
10:39. That's the best idea I've ever heard. Absolutely brilliant.
