Ms. Addison spoke of her upstate roots and strong desire to locate here when talking to reporters after the meeting. She said her management skills in various tasks in a federal agency will allow her to be ready when she takes over the managers post on July 16 from John Krol.
Newly Hired Manager Sharon Addison Meets Local Media
Mr. Krol and Ms. Addison will coordinate the transition. With her parents from her native Schenectady there and her two school age daughters joining other friends and relatives, Ms. Addison was also greeted by the third floor office staff.
Tick-Tock of Hiring
Last January Council had no plan for recruitment and transition. At my urging a bare 3-2 majority approved the hiring of former Ogdensburg manager John Krol to lead a recruitment effort. Since the March 20 application deadline, Council has thinned the herd of 37 applicants (30 men and 7 women...Two residing in Jefferson County and 35 elsewhere). The decision really came last weekend when Ms. Addison delivered a solid in-person interview that left Council members comfortable with her qualifications and persona. A final decision came Monday and by Thursday Mr. Krol and I had negotiated the final contract before calling the special meeting Friday afternoon.
We welcome her and her experience to the post.

I don't care if she owns property here or has relatives here...or went to school in Potsdam. I don't care that she wants to live here and is looking forward to moving her family here.
Just why couldn't you hire someone local ?
Good question 10:41AM. Bet the Mayor and Council haven't got an answer. Oh wait, yes they do. No one who lives here could actually be qualified.
Because only two of 37 applicants were local ?
Good job Mayor. Sounds like a very qualified choice who can take charge from day one.
10:41 after observing the council for the last couple of years no one locally would want the job. I realize Jeff likes to put lipstick on the pig but just follow the actions it speaks for itself.
geez don't break your arm pattin yourself on the back.
I LIKE her. I like the way she brought her parents to the event. I like the look of her folks, as they look like real people. She looks like real people. Time to get off our hineys, welcome her, and give her the support to do the job. This was handled in a timely manner and I have a good feeling about the entire situation.
One more thing. Anyone or any family with roots in Schenectady are good people.
another blow to watertown should of been a resident of city and local shadow government at it again
Whomever the "shadow government" is anymore, I can assure you this was not their choice.
I think she will do fine. As for all this "hire local" stuff...There was no one applying who had anywhere near what anyone would think is adequate qualifications.
It is interesting that nothing can be said about her personal/family life. That's a no no in today's fashionable wimyn world. Don't get me wrong, its not her fault. But if this was a man we had hired we would have heard if he was married, kids etc. You can't do that when you're talking about women. Sick. Watch the WDT avoid the situation altogether. That's what middle school will do for you.
And another thing about trading Maryland for NY. Maybe she wanted to go shooting. Maryland has suspended the Constitution. Here, we simply infringe on it.
Figures you wouldn't post my comment from earlier.
