He was spurned in the Republican primary process, but he is also a two term governor of a state and a well known advocate for libertarian causes.
Gary Johnson has been selected to run as the Libertarian Party candidate for Congress, providing an alternative to President Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney.
Mr. Johnson has credibililty since he was governor of New Mexico and has credentials as an advocate for issues from marijuana legalization to keeping the nation out of foreign entanglements.
I don't think his impact is huge, and the votes he gets are not likely major party type voters to begin with.

As someone sick of the lack of real passion from Mitt and cannot vote for Obama who has shocked me by changing my view of Jimmy Carter as worst President in my lifetime. I find Gary Johnson to be at way to express my dissatisfaction.
As you look deeper the whole " advocate for issues from marijuana legalization" makes headlines but is minor part of his running and make up. More impressive to me is the results he got as governor of New Mexico, climbed Mount Everest and if you read his bio would seem to be much saner choice than the other tow. I love his philosophy of looking at all things for their cost-benefit ratio and cutting from there.
I dunno...free stuff party gets 95% of the black vote and occupy vote.
But now you have a "legalize weed" guy to pull a few of them away.
A guy like that in the race could have given Florida to Bush without needing the SCOTUS to do it.
